The New Souls are characters in Disney/Pixar's 2020 animated feature film Soul. They appear when Joe Gardner lands on The Great Before with Counselor Jerry A welcoming to the Great Before.

New Souls are fresh-faced, violet-eyed and curious—they’re blank slates on a mission to discover their identity. From the Personality Pavilions to the Hall of Everything, new souls take on the traits they will exude on Earth. Finding their spark is the final step for all new souls before earning their Earth Pass and beginning life as a human. For some new souls, however, finding that spark is easier said than done.

When Joe Gardner finds himself in the Great Before, a group of new souls were seen wandering around the area. Counselor Jerry A appears in front of the new souls who saw Joe as a newcomer, telling them to give him some room by telling them, "Quiet coyote". The souls interacting with Joe then listen to asking Jerry A about the strange dimension he is in, and overhear what Joe is saying forcing Jerry A to tell them, "Quiet coyote" again, and tell him that he is in the Great Before, now rebranded as the "You Seminar" just as Joe observes many souls frolicking around. Counselor Jerry A then transforms herself into the form of a vehicle which Joe and a group of new souls and directs them to the Excitable Pavilion where Jerry directs a group of new souls to their destinations. Joe curiously asks Jerry about where the souls' personalities come from, and Jerry tells Joe to observe their personalities. He later asks the Counselor to know how the new souls arrive on Earth, and she answers him that they use use an Earth Portal once they get a complete personality. When Joe arrives at the Earth Portal, he tries to get back to Earth several times, only to end up in the Great Before every time.
Terry then arrives and alerts Jerry A that the soul count is insufficient, explaining to her that 151,000 new souls enter the Great Beyond every day, explaining that her job as an accountant helps keep Terry track of souls that enter. All five Jerries appear in front of Terry while she plans to figure out the problem she is experiencing. Joe then enters an auditorium shaped like a Counselor Jerry at the You Seminar where a group of mentors are seen watching a movie where Counselor Jerry C tells the audience that all new souls are given unique personalities. A movie sequence showcases new souls explaining to the mentors about their unique personalities. Jerry C then explains to the audience that the locations, the Hall of Everything or the Hall of You, are the perfect locations where souls would find their sparks on Earth and Joe imagines himself returning to the real world. Later after the movie, Counselor Jerry B arrives and selects Maria Martinez to match one of the souls to be their mentor. Afterwards, Jerry B picks up 22 and partners her with Joe Gardner (wearing Dr. Börgensson's name tag), while he believes that he would be the perfect mentor for her. After Joe and 22 leave the auditorium, they pass through multiple new souls on their way to the Hall of Everything, experiencing everything that new souls do before they arrive to Earth after completing their Earth Pass. However, as Joe and 22 continue exploring, Jerry B appears in front of 22, telling her that her time is up. 22 asks Jerry B to give her some extra time, which Jerry B agrees, giving the new soul extra time before she can go to Earth. Later, Jerry A directs a group of new souls into two different buildings at the Great Before, only for Jerry B tells her to stop sending souls to that pavilion. Terry arrives to tell Counselor Jerries A and B that she found Joe Gardner in her office and she plans to arrive at Earth to find Joe and return him to the Great Before.
After Terry arrives on Earth and captures the souls of Joe and 22 respectively and sends them back to the Great Before, Terry then approaches Counselor Jerries A, B, D, and E who notice that 22 has received her Earth Pass and is now able to leave for Earth just like the other new souls. Joe then discusses with Jerry B,'who tells him about 22's spark while telling him about his spark being a passion for music. Jerry B replies to him that a spark isn't a soul's purpose, which Joe tells himself that his spark is music. Joe then uses the Earth portal to return to Earth like the other new souls are doing just and returns to his own body.
Later when 22 transforms into a lost soul in the Astral Plane, she rushes into the Great Before in her lost soul form where various new souls react to see a lost soul. Four Counselor Jerries protect a group of new souls for safety while trying to take care of 22. When Joe apologizes to 22 by showing her his memories, she disintegrates to her normal form as various new souls, alongside mentors and Counselor Jerries, happily watch Joe taking care of 22 just as 22 leaves for Earth with her Earth Pass, followed by Joe returning to Earth while various new souls follow along. Joe manages to return back to his own body in time as accepted by Counselor Jerry A who agrees to give him another chance.
22 vs. Earth[]
In the prequel to the movie, a pragmatic 22 tells a new soul named Neptune to not go to Earth, to which Neptune corrects her, telling her that he can go to Earth now with the Earth Pass he has. 22 then devises a plan to teach a group of new souls to not go to Earth, and they follow 22's plans of avoiding Earth. 22 then gives the members following her each a unique name: Macaroni, Zimmy, Peanut, D-Pac, Moonbeam, Cheese, and Crackers as they follow 22's plans. However, despite that, 22's plan was a failure as all the new souls arrive at Earth with Macaroni being the last one to leave for Earth.
