Nicholas Holland is a character featured in the 2023 film A Haunting in Venice, based on the 1969 novel "Hallowe'en Party" by Agatha Christie. He is portrayed by English actor Ali Khan.
Background[]
Nicholas is the younger brother of Desdemona Holland (Emma Laird), a pair of con artists who work as assistants to Joyce Reynolds (Michelle Yeoh), a famous medium. Nicholas and Desdemona help Mrs. Reynolds stage fake séances by using hidden wires, speakers, and other tricks. They are hired by Rowena Drake (Kelly Reilly), a wealthy opera singer, to conduct a séance at her haunted palazzo in Venice on Halloween night. However, things go wrong when Mrs. Reynolds is murdered during the séance, and the guests are locked inside the estate by Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh), a retired detective who suspects foul play.
Nicholas is a charming and witty young man. He enjoys flirting with the ladies, especially Alicia Drake (Rowan Robinson), Rowena's daughter. He also has a talent for impersonating voices, which he uses to mimic the spirits of the dead during the séances. He is loyal to his sister and tries to protect her from danger, but he also has a greedy side and is willing to betray anyone for money.
Trivia[]
- In the original book, Nicholas Ransom is a teenage boy who is friends with Desmond Holland and for the party created a set up where they took pictures of girls' future husbands (really just himself and Desmond in make up).
