Appearances[]
Marvel Cinematic Universe[]
Agatha All Along[]
Nicholas Scratch is first mentioned in the episode "Through Many Miles / Of Tricks and Trials", when Jennifer Kale tells "Teen" that Agatha traded her son for the Darkhold, leaving Teen stunned. While Agatha is having a hallucination, she hears a baby crying, only to find the crib with the Darkhold inside instead of her son, Nicholas, as a baby, much to Agatha's horror.
Then in "Darkest Hour / Wake Thy Power", during Agatha Harkness' trial, Nicholas' voice is heard as she is draining Alice Wu-Gulliver's power and killing her. Nicholas' voice gets Agatha's attention and tells her to stop hurting Alice, much to Agatha's discomfort and sadness. Before Nicholas' voice is heard, Teen calls out his name as the Quiji board spells out the child's name.
Nicholas' backstory with Agatha is finally revealed in the episode "Maiden Mother Crone", where he is shown to be born in 1750 and is born as a sick baby as Death has come for him, but Agatha convinces her lover to give her some time with her baby. Over the next 6 years, Agatha raises Nicholas with the intention to use him to get witches' attention and drain them of their powers. It is also revealed Nicholas was the one who invented the "Ballad of the Witches' Road" that his mother would go on and use in centuries to come. On one day, Nicholas is performing his version of the ballad when a woman kindly offers to help him, noticing he looks sick. Although appreciative, Nicholas tells this woman that he must return home as his mother needs him. Later that night, Nicholas dies in his sleep. His soul wakes up while Agatha is asleep and he sees Death call him over, who tells him to kiss his mother goodbye. Nicholas does so twice before walking away with Rio, to the afterlife. Agatha then wakes up the next day only to find her son dead. Agatha buries her son and spends centuries draining witches of their powers by luring them with her version of the ballad.
Over the course of the years following Nicholas' death, people believed that Agatha traded him in order to get her hands on the Darkhold, while this is later proven not to be true. In the present day, Agatha's ghost form tells Billy that she can't move onto the afterlife because she can't bear to see Nicholas after so long and for him to see what she has become. Billy comforts Agatha in the way that he believes Nicholas would forgive his mother for everything she has done since he died.
Trivia[]

- Many people thought Agatha traded Nicholas for the Darkhold, but this was a lie as it is eventually revealed that Nicholas was a sick baby and died in his sleep. - Although Nicholas' voice is heard in the fourth episode, it is never revealed if the voice actor is Abel Lysenko, who played the child in episode 9, although it is highly possible.
