Nico Minoru is a Marvel Comics character, featured in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man as the best friend and classmate of Peter Parker, and debuts in the first episode.
Nico Minoru was created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona.
Background[]
Nico was born to Tina and Robert Minoru in 2001 in Los Angeles, California, but her mother died during an early point in Nico's life. Nico later got accepted to Midtown High of Science and Technology in New York City, where she lived with a foster family.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Witchcraft: Nico has the ability to communicate with her late mother, using witchcraft and her locket. She knows how to do a seance to do this.
Role in the series[]
Nico Minoru appears in the animated series as a friend to Peter Parker. In a different universe to Earth-616, Nico meets Peter when they are outside of a building in 2015. She is offered a hand as he helps her up and introduces herself. However, unaware to Nico, Peter has been bitten by a radioactive spider which makes him grunt in pain, making Nico think he doesn't like her name. Nico tries to help Peter as he faints from the bite, with the help of his Aunt May.
By 2016, Nico and Peter become best friends, but he keeps his secret identity as Spider-Man from Nico. She does show support for his growing crush on childhood friend, Pearl Pangan, and convinces him to ask her out, but before Peter gets a chance to ask Pearl out, Nico stops him as it is revealed that she is dating Lonnie Lincoln, Peter's friend and the quarterback of the football team. Nico supports Peter in his internship at Oscorp but becomes disappointed when he isn't able to attend a party that they both have been invited to.
Nico spends time with Harry Osborn when Peter wants them to hang out, but Harry accidentally reveals to Nico that Peter is Spider-Man, thinking she already knew. This leaves Nico feeling distant to Peter as they thought they were supposed to be best friends and not keep secrets from each other. Peter tries hard to apologise to Nico and explain, but she keeps ignoring him and spends time with Pearl, who is having issues of her own as she breaks up with Lonnie after he shows dedication to stick by the 110 gang's side. Harry apologises to Nico about spilling Peter's secret, but she gets mad at him, which hurts Harry because he believes she should be more mad at Peter for not telling her sooner. Although tense between them, Nico and Harry soon hang out and he offers to teach her to drive. Nico accepts and although she is not too good at first, she accidentally gets them in a race against some gang members and wins, which impresses Harry. The two get closer and become friends, which leads to Harry convincing Nico to forgive Peter.
Later, Nico is about to forgive Peter when she is almost hit by Big Donovan's truck, but saved by Spider-Man. Noticing the incoming dangers, Spider-Man takes Nico to a safer area where she waits until the battle against the Scorpion is over. Nico and Peter then meet up where he apologizes to her for keeping his secret identity a secret, but she tells him she is sorry for ignoring him and praises him for saving her life and putting other people's safety above his own. Nico tells Peter she will support him as Spider-Man, which he appreciates, and they become friends again.
In the season finale, Nico is seen supporting Peter's duties as Spider-Man and keeping his identity a secret, especially when Pearl asks where he is. Nico spends time with Harry and Peter at the Parker's house, where she suggests to Harry to create his own company for young geniuses, which he agrees. Nico is later seen doing a seance to reach out to her late mother.
