The Nine Realms are nine worlds interconnected through the world tree, Yggdrasil. Malekith wants to use his connection to spread the Aether and return the universe to an eternal night.

Malekith's dream was that the universe was of an eternal night again. Malekith, with the power of the Aether wanted his dream came true but this dream would not come true due to the interference of the Asgardians, the first King Bor, then his grandson, Thor.

- Vanaheim - Home of the Vanir, the sister race of the Asgardians and the Trolls.
- Asgard - Home of the Asgardians. It was ruled by Odin Borson.
- Midgard - Home of the Humans. It is the Earth itself.
- Jotunheim - Home of the Frost Giants. It was ruled by Laufey.
