"No More Mr. Rice Guy" is the second segment of the twenty-fourth episode of the Disney Channel animated series Hailey's On It!

Synopsis[]

After Hailey accidentally inspires her dad to go on strike, she struggles to make his famous fried rice for a school event.

Plot[]

Hailey and Scott are trying to get ready for a school event. Hailey plans to enter her father Kai's famous fried rice so that they can earn money to go to the tinfoil museum, one of Hailey's list items. Scott in the meantime is bringing a holiday themed ice cream, but needs to keep it refrigerated or else it will melt. As they hurry to the kitchen to shove one of the tubs in the fridge, Scott proceeds to eat the other tub while the twins make a mess of the kitchen. Kai is left in despair over Patricia and Hailey's somewhat dismissive attitude towards him. Hailey passively suggests that Kai stand up for himself and he takes her words to heart.

The next day, Hailey, Patricia, and the twins discover that Kai has not cooked a thing and has no interest in doing so by going on strike. Hailey, realizing what she has done and in desperate need of the rice, decides to go ahead and make it herself by following a recipe, which Kai has to explain as he never wrote it down. Hailey has to collect vegetables from Felicia, Ham from Peanut Butter Pam, and eggs (dubbed chickenberries) from Uncle Chuy. During this time, Hailey discovers that Kai does a lot of other work and helps perform time consuming chores, making her see that Kai does much more for the community than she realized.

Scott fails to adequately cook the rice, as he does not know how Kai does it, and Hailey is forced to use the now burnt rice with all the ingredients. Hailey can't serve the horrible tasting rice and finally goes to speak with Kai, admitting that she has taken him for granted and does not realize all the hard work he does. Patricia, who had actually been taking care of the twins this whole time, also admits that she has been very dismissive of his hard work. Kai agrees to cook again the condition that he be allowed to watch his cooking show and get a thank you every now and then. He reveals that he cooked the rice already as he knew Hailey wouldn't be able to do it.
