"Nobody Doesn't Like T.J." is the second segment of the forty-eighth episode of Recess.

Synopsis[]

T.J. finds out that Gordy is the only kid on the playground who doesn't like him and sets out to make him his friend.

Plot[]

While T.J. is in detention, the rest of the Gang is waiting outside for him and get distracted by their classmate Gordy who is playing a video game. They compliment him, but when they suggest showing it to T.J., Gordy openly voices his dislike of him and leaves. The Gang tell T.J. what they learned and he is baffled. He spends the rest of the school time trying to get Gordy to like or acknowledge him, but he continues to rebuff him. T.J. offers him brownies, only for him to be disgusted with them having walnuts (he is allergic), and then tries to use reverse psychology on him, only for Gordy to be relieved upon hearing T.J. saying he does not like him.

T.J. sends himself and Gordy to detention so that he can have personal time with him, angering Gordy. Miss Finster steps out and T.J. reveals that he knows his way around the detention hall and takes Gordy on a tour, first to the kitchen where the ice cream is hidden, then above Principal Prickly's office where they mess with him and finally to the Pale Kids' room where Gordy takes part in some of their games. After returning to detention, T.J. is shocked that Gordy still does not like him despite having fun. When T.J. demands an answer he tells him, "No reason, I just don't." T.J. tells Miss Finster that he learned that not everyone needs to like him to which Finster tells him, "Just because I give you a detention doesn't mean I don't like you."

Trivia[]

  • Gordy does not give a reason for disliking T.J., making for a rather malformed moral to the episode.
  • When T.J. is leading Gordy through the duct and comes to the kitchen vent, he remarks "All quiet on the kitchen front", an allusion to the 1928 war novel, All Quiet on the Western Front.
  • Lawson admits that he likes T.J. despite the two of them being rivals.
  • This episode reveals that Principal Prickly wears a toupee.
  • Miss Finster admits that she likes T.J., most likely because he amuses her.
