Nona is the titular character from the 2021 Disney/Pixar animated short of the same name.
Background[]
Nona is Renee's grandmother who lives in an apartment. She lives with her dog Baby and often watches her favorite wrestling program, E.W.W. Smashdown Wrestling, showing that she is a fan of the show. However, when her son Mijo told his mother to watch over Renee, who is Nona's granddaughter, she does her best in keeping herself busy while watching Smashdown on her TV, despite Renee's playful personality.
Role in the short[]
Nona is introduced entering her apartment with her pet dog Baby and as she enters her room, she stares on a calendar scheduled for her to watch the wrestling show, E.W.W. Smashdown Wrestling where she feels excited of watching her favorite show. She then unplugs her telephone so she can plug in her TV where she watches her favorite show. As she watches her favorite show, she finds herself in the wrestling arena in a fantasy sequence only for the sequence to fade into the real world where she encounters her granddaughter Renee where she gets a text from her son named "Mijo" telling her to watch Renee just as Nona's son tells his mother that he has to work. Just as Nona watches over her granddaughter, she changes to watch her favorite children's show Kitty Kitty Dance Party only for Nona to switch for her to watch Smashdown instead. She then gives Renee her a few toys and some crayons and pencils for her to do drawing. Just as Nona continues to watch, her grandmother shows her a drawing she did, which Nona tells her that she doesn't want to miss the fight.
Nona gives her granddaughter toy bricks just as she brings Baby for him to interact with her granddaughter just before Nona resumes watching which Renee creates a sword made out of bricks. When Nona watches the Main Event on Smashdown, she constantly feels uncomfortable with Renee being so playful, thinking she is interrupting her favorite show. Later, when Nona sees Renee on the staircase, she protects her from getting hurt, albeit knocking down the TV that is still playing Smashdown, causing the screen to be static, just as she cries that she missed her favorite show. Realizing Renee copying the wrestlers she saw on TV, Nona observes her doing this and finds herself in a wrestling ring alongside her granddaughter Renee in another fantasy sequence just as the two imagine themselves playing wrestling together which the scene fades into the real world. Nona and her granddaughter happily laugh together pretending to be wrestlers.
In a post credits scene, Nona is on the couch Baby who is sleeping and Renee on top of her as the latter's favorite show Kitty Kitty Dance Party plays. Nona tries to reach for the remote, but it falls to the floor, frustrating her.
