Nyuni is a character who was featured in the Disney Jr. animated series, The Lion Guard. He is a yellow wagtail who was introduced in the series' second season.
Background[]
Nyuni is a curious yellow wagtail who likes to see different parts of the Pride Lands with his curiosity all around him. Despite being a reluctant bird who would disturb, he shows a friendly personality if one makes a compromise with him. In spite of this, Nyuni also shows a brave personality in the Pride Lands, like when he teamed up with Hadithi and a flock of birds who were able to fight off a flock of vultures under command by Mzingo emitting a wildfire in the Pride Lands.
Role in the series[]
Introduced in the Season 2 episode, "The Morning Report", Bunga attempts to rescue Bupu whose horns are stuck on a branch, to which he hears Nyuni who alerts the honey badger that the tree where Bupu is stuck at is his home which Bunga, who mistakes him for a talking tree, notices the yellow wagtail talking to him. When Beshte asks him that the tree is his home, Nyuni explains to him that he likes to live in different parts of the Pride Lands, explaining that he was frustrated when Bupu, the sable antelope, got his horns caught in a branch and noticing the argument, Zazu asks the quarreling two know what the commotion is about while Kion devises a plan to keep the two happy. Bupu gently walks in a slow manner, still with the branch containing Nyuni's nest on it stuck on his horns where Kion decides help Bupu show Nyuni other parts of the Pride Lands, leading his herd all across the savanna. Zazu gives Bupu a reminder to avoid running into trees in the future - especially trees which are home to birds like Nyuni.
Later, Bupu, who has the branch containing Nyuni's nest on it stuck on his horns, explains to the Lion Guard that he hasn't seen Zazu since this morning which he thinks that he is embarassing another animal in an unfortunate situation, which Nyuni explains that he hasn't seen Zazu either. Nyuni warns Bupu that one antelope calf is wandering off, telling Bupu to work together in taking care of it. Bupu and Nyuni manage to take care of the calf walking away which the two were able to do it.
Nyuni later appeared in "Fire from the Sky" where he was one of the victims under assault by a flock of vultures led by Mzingo. When Hadithi rallies a flock of birds to counter the attacks, Nyuni joins with the other birds in fighting the vultures and protecting the Pride Lands from being destroyed. The plan to defeat Mzingo and his parliament was successful.

- "Nyuni" means "bird" in Swahili.
- In the Season 3 episode "Battle for the Pride Lands", some of the birds participating during the battle against Scar are yellow wagtails; however, it is unknown if Nyuni did participate during battle in this episode or if it was an incidental yellow wagtail participating during battle.
