For other uses, see "Odin".

Odin is a character from EPCOT.

History[]

Background[]

Odin is based on the god of Norse mythology of the same name. In the former Maelstrom attraction, his head is shown to be hovering above the boats arriving at the top of a hill leading to the troll country while a narrator (supposedly Odin himself) gives a narration about the dangers encountered in the troll country.

Development History[]

Odin was created for the attraction Maelstrom in Epcot's World Showcase. The character is based on the god from Norse mythology of the same name often associated with wisdom, healing, war, battle, and runic alphabet. In the attraction, the lit face of Odin is displayed in the beginning of the attraction where he is shown as a landmark to mark the entrance to the troll country.

Maelstrom closed in 2014 to make way for the attraction Frozen Ever After, based on the hit 2013 film Frozen.

Appearances[]

Maelstrom[]

Odin is encountered at the beginning of the attraction where boat went up a hill leading guests to explore the Norwegian landscape. As the boats went up hill, they saw a head of Odin which hovered above the guests and an eye begin glowing while a narrator (supposedly Odin himself) gave out the dangers guests will encounter in the Norwegian landscape.

Gods of the Vikings[]

One of the exhibits used in the Stave Church Gallery exhibit in the Norway Pavilion is an exhibit that showcases Odin, giving out details of who he was in the original mythology. This Odin is completely unrelated to his incarnation at the former Maelstorm attraction.

Trivia[]

  • In the Frozen Ever After attraction during the part where the boats go up hill, the hovering image where Odin's head appeared and began glowing was replaced by the entrance to Elsa's Ice Palace.
