"Officer Mikey" is the second segment of the third episode of Recess.

Synopsis[]

Mikey wants to become a safety ranger, which causes the gang to get help from others.

Plot[]

The Safety Rangers give a speech in Miss Grotke's class. While everyone is bored, Mikey is enamored with the group and vies to be one of them. However, he humiliates himself when Captain Brad asks for a volunteer to come up and help and ends up tripping over his own desk and beheads the Safety Rangers mascot. The rest of the gang cannot figure out why Mikey would want to be one of them, but he explains that it is a heroic life and wants to be looked up to by everyone. Knowing that Mikey would never give up, the gang look for a way to get Mikey into the group. This is made even more difficult when Captain Brad outright turns down Mikey for not meeting up to standards.

The Recess Gang find a way around this when they discover that Mikey can join as long as he has two sponsors from within the group. They approach the two weaker members of the Safety Rangers who agree to sponsor Mikey on the condition that they sing the next national anthem, despite being terrible singers. They approach school bureaucrat Menlo to allow this, but he only will if Ashley A. lets him carry her books. Ashley A. is grossed out by this, but secretly tells the gang that she will under the condition that they get her diary back from her little sister Brittany. Brittany will only do so if she is allowed to sit in a big kid's chair; in this case, King Bob's.

King Bob outright refuses until they once again bring up a dream he has. King Bob admits that he wants a true friend and not just another subject. T.J. actually manages to solve this by getting him a puppy. Through a chain of events, everyone gets what they want, right down to Mikey finally becoming a Safety Ranger. The rest of the gang congratulate themselves until they see Mikey inside the cafeteria. He reveals that he quit because being a Safety Ranger turned out to be a lot harder and not as glamorous as he thought. He tells them that he now wants to be a skydiver, but they all angrily leave him.
