"On Spaceguard" is the first segment of the tenth episode of Miles from Tomorrowland. It premiered on April 3, 2015 alongside "Spaceship Invader".

Plot[]

On the observatory, Miles is testing his Lazerang aiming skills while M.E.R.C. launches holo-balls. M.E.R.C. launches one, and Miles misses, making that seven in a row. Miles decides to try it again, and succeeds this time. Miles and M.E.R.C. see the SpaceGuard cruiser, and head to the hangar.

Once Miles sees Captain Joe, Miles wishes he could be in the SpaceGuard like Joe. Miles and Loretta are excited to see him, as does Phoebe and Leo. Joe tells Leo that everything is normal with catching space criminals and keeping the galaxy safe. Joe is here to invite Miles and M.E.R.C. for some holo-ball target practice at the Tethoscape, and it is not every day that he has some one-on-one time with Miles. Joe then promises Phoebe that he will keep Miles safe.

The SpaceGuard cruiser then leaves the Stellosphere, and Miles thinks that Joe has the best job in the galaxy. Joe says sometimes he does, and just as he asks Miles and M.E.R.C. if they are ready, Lieutenant Luminix calls. Luminix informs Joe of a very serious problem: Gadfly Garnett stole a map to a hidden lab on Planet Alarbus. There, the scientists have developed a device known as the Invisitech, which can make anything or anyone invisible. Not only that, it uses metamaterials, which are artificial materials not found in nature, to bend light in strange ways and create the appearance of invisibility. Joe accepts the task, and cancels his holo-ball target practice at the Tethoscape. Since there is no time for Joe to get Miles and M.E.R.C. back home, Joe offers them to help him catch Gadfly, which Miles accepts.

Joe then parks his SpaceGuard cruiser near the lab, and plans to surprise Gadfly when he gets near. Joe and Miles use their binoculars while M.E.R.C. uses his periscope view. After Gadfly arrives, Joe tells Miles and M.E.R.C. to stay in the cruiser while he gets Gadfly himself. At that time, Gadfly finds the lab, and deactivates its camouflage. Joe arrives, but Gadfly activates his goons to stall him. Miles decides that, since he can not leave the cruiser, he can use his Lazerang to hit the hoops on the goons. His first attempt fails, but he is successful on the second. Joe takes the Lazerang and deactivates the rest of the goons. Miles tells him that he and M.E.R.C. stayed in the cruiser. Since Gadfly made it to the lab, the safest place for Miles and M.E.R.C. is with Joe, and this excites Miles.

Gadfly is making his way through the lab when robots tell him that this is a secure location. Since all of the robots are fully charged, Gadfly de-charges them with his de-charger before finding the Inivisitech. Joe, Miles, and M.E.R.C. arrive, and Joe says that saving the day runs in the family. Gadfly then activates his Invisitech, and escapes the lab. Miles, Joe, and M.E.R.C. chase him out of the lab, and find out that he is heading for his ship, the Scourge. Joe then activates his bootjets to catch up to Gadfly. He then deactivates the Scourge's engines, leading to Gadfly activating his Invisitech again. Joe uses his hoverbike while Miles rides M.E.R.C. to chase Gadfly.

During the chase, M.E.R.C.'s infrared vision has a lock on Gadfly's trail, and he and Miles are followed by Joe. However, M.E.R.C. gets caught on some branches, and loses the trail. Joe believes that Gadfly has to be in the spaceport they see up ahead. Miles has an idea of using the paint cans to catch Gadfly. He successfully uses his Lazerang to tip them over, revealing where Gadfly is. Gadfly starts to run when he slips on a bucket. As he begins to run away, Joe catches him just as the bucket falls on his head, and handcuffs his arms. Miles and M.E.R.C. then celebrate.

Back in the Stellosphere's hangar, Joe informs the Callistos that thanks to Miles and M.E.R.C., Gadfly is back where he belongs: behind holo-bars. Gadfly says that no one keeps him behind bars, and is provided with food. Joe then awards Miles and M.E.R.C. with honorary SpaceGuard badges, and tells Miles that one day, he will make a fine SpaceGuard captain. Joe takes the SpaceGuard cruiser out of the Stellosphere, and Miles says that he loves him.
