"One Stayed Clean" is the first segment of the twenty-seventh episode of Recess.
Synopsis[]
It's Gus' first-ever Picture Day, but can his friends help him stay clean until the end of the day?
Plot[]
T.J. writes a letter to Lt. Griswald about his son, Gus. At recess, all the kids are preparing for picture day, but are concerned as they are trying to stay clean for the photo. Gus tells the Gang that getting his school picture taken is important to him because he has never stayed at one school for so long and thus has never had a proper school photo. The Gang agree to do everything they can to keep him clean. However, the group is horrified to learn that the fourth grade class will be getting their photos last due in part to Miss Grotke's misguided attempt at trying to be giving to the other grades, rather than simply letting the grades go in order.
The Recess Gang try to sit away from everyone and all ponder what they plan to do after they get their picture taken. This is interrupted when a football lands in Mikey's lap. Rather than get rid of it, he trips and falls and Vince rushes back to help him. It ends up being too late for the two of them and Vince orders the others to run. They get found by a bunch of other dirty kids who give chase. Gretchen's hair bow gets caught on a face and Spinelli rushes back to help her, only for the two of them to get caught. T.J. and Gus hide in the Diggers' hole along with Randall. T.J. promises that he will get Gus to get a good picture taken.
T.J. and Gus escape the hole, though the Diggers and Randall are not so lucky, and they manage to run all the way back to the photo area where all the other soiled fourth graders are. Just before they arrive, a dirtied Lawson shows up to threaten T.J., who orders Gus to get his picture taken. Before he can comply, the scene fades to white. Back in the present, Lt. Griswald reads the rest of the letter that T.J. sent to him and pulls out a photo to show to his fellow solider. It is revealed Gus sacrificed his clothes so that T.J. could remain clean for the photo, making Lt. Griswald proud.
