"One in a Million" is the thirty-second episode of The Proud Family.
Synopsis[]
Oscar is heading out to the basketball game with Bobby and Felix, refusing to take Penny and Trudy with him, as according to his philosophy, basketball is a man's sport. In retaliation, Trudy and Penny, plus Sunset and LaCienega take their tickets and attend the game. During the eighth inning stretch, Wizard Kelly announces a half-court challenge in which anybody, from an NBA all star to a friend or family member will be able to win $1 million dollars. Oscar sees this on TV and tries to warm up to Penny by giving her all sorts of luxuries like a limo ride and fancy lunches, hoping to convince her to take the shot. Penny, not understanding her father's goal, bluntly refuses.
Penny sets out to a basketball court with her friends in tow and tests a large number of basketball players to take the shot before settling on Kobe Bryant. One enigmatic figure named Big O appears and he is revealed to be Oscar in disguise when he tries to get on his sweats. Oscar explains in flashback that he used to be a legendary ball player until a fateful blunder during a state championship game caused his ball to hit the back of his rim and flew to the other end of Wizard Kelly's basket, leading to the Wizard's fame and fortune. By the time he finishes his story, only Zoey is there to comfort him.
On the day of the million dollar shot, Oscar does not want to go, but changes his mind when Penny announces his name on TV. Oscar makes it just in time to score the million dollar shot, but his victory is pyrrhic when he and Penny find out that the dollars can only be used on movie snacks and ice cream. Although Oscar is upset, Penny invites everyone to Three Flavors Ice Cream.
Trivia[]
- For a time, this episode was pulled from rotation because of Bryant being accused of sexual assault. Once the charges were dropped, the episode was brought back.

- Despite Suga Mama watching the Basketball game from home, she is briefly seen when Wizard Kelly announces the Million Dollar Shot winner.
