The Order of the Wand is an organization that appears as an antagonistic faction in Sofia the First. It was a group of rogue and power-hungry sorcerers, who were fed up with having to bow to royalty, and they sought to take over all of the kingdoms in the EverRealm and eventually the world. The leader and founder of the Order of the Wand is Grimtrix, the headmaster of Hexley Hall.
Role in the series[]
In the first episode of the fourth season, Day of the Sorcerers, Grimtrix invited and assembled a group of powerful and evil sorcerers who serve their respective monarchs while some used to have great renown and fame, while the rest are great enemies of others. Members of the Order of the Wand includes Baron Von Rocha, who used to steal other people's musical talents to be the most famous Magical Musician in the EverRealm, Greylock the Grand, King Magnus' royal sorcerer who seeks power for himself, and Morgana, the archenemy of the wizard Merlin.
Cedric the Sorcerer, who serves as Royal Sorcerer to King Roland II of Enchancia, was also invited by Grimtrix to join the Order. Once they are all assembled, Grimtrix proposed that they take over all of the kingdoms, as he assumed that they are tired of being ordered around, having to use magic to entertain others, and being overlooked. When Grimtrix was asked on how they could achieve their goal, he reveals to them a box that contains powerful (but legendary) Medusa stones. Answering a member's question on what can the stones do, Grimtrix reveals that placing them on their wands will give them the power to unleash a powerful and unbreakable spell that is capable of permanently freezing anyone in place, making them look like they have been turned to stone. As a result, this can allow them to easily take over the kingdoms.
Though the Order of the Wand had thought that they are alone, they were unaware that Princess Sofia is spying on them and heard everything. When one member of the Order refused to take part and attempts to leave, Grimtrix proceeded to use his own Medusa Stone to freeze him in place, to the astonishment of the other members. Greylock and an unnamed tiny wizard attempted to undo the spell with their magic to no avail, thus proving that the Medusa Stone's spell is unbreakable. Grimtrix declares that once they take over their respective kingdoms, the Order of the Wand will control the entire world, to Sofia's horror.
Each of the members were then given their Medusa Stone and most of them immediately leave to fulfill their ambitious goals. After Grimtrix wishes Cedric, or the so-called "King Cedric", that he have fun taking over Enchancia and leaves the room, Sofia angrily confronts Cedric over being part of Grimtrix's evil plan and Wormwood gloats about Cedric's plan to take over Enchancia and about all his plots to steal her Amulet ever since she first arrived at the Castle, which left Sofia in shock. Cedric eventually admits the truth behind his evil deeds and reveals that once he takes over her kingdom, everyone will finally see that he is truly a "great sorcerer". He then hesitantly tells Sofia they aren't truly friends, leaving her heartbroken. Cedric then goes off to begin his conquest but Sofia immediately follows him.
Cedric returns to Enchancia castle and proceeded to freeze the entire royal family. Baileywick and the castle guards were also frozen. Thus, this allowed Cedric to take over the castle and eventually all of Enchancia. When Sofia tries to get Cedric to listen to reason, he firmly tells her that taking over Enchancia is all he wanted. When Cedric couldn't bring himself to freeze Sofia, she immediately snatches his wand. Having learned from Merlin that removing a Medusa Stone from a wand will undo its effects, Sofia removes Cedric's Medusa Stone from his wand and destroys it, which undid the spell's effects. Seeing that all of his efforts are undone, Cedric tries to flee but was immediately stopped by the guards. King Roland is furious that his own royal sorcerer had betrayed him and Cedric reveals all the frustration and resentment he has felt about never being good enough for his parents or for the Kingdom, and how the years of mistreatment and mockery made him feel desperate to prove himself as a powerful and capable wizard and a great man. Though Sofia took pity on Cedric, King Roland is not in the mood to show mercy or guilt to Cedric for all the disrespect he had went through and has him arrested.
Meanwhile, as Cedric was imprisoned, two members of the Order of the Wand were able to accomplish their goals; Greylock the Grand had frozen King Magnus and took over his kingdom while Baron Von Rocha had taken over the kingdom of Zumaria, after having frozen Princess Vivian and her parents King Marcus and Queen Cecily. Grimtrix, seeing these successes through his staff, was overjoyed but when he didn't see Cedric, he immediately goes to Enchancia to do Cedric's plot himself, unaware that his attempt to take over Enchancia had failed, thanks to Sofia. Arriving at Enchancia castle, he immediately refroze King Roland and his family along with the castle guards, though its unknown if he refroze Baileywick. Upon seeing Cedric and Wormwood, who managed to free themselves, Grimtrix urges the former to use his staff on Sofia and that way he can finally have Enchancia for himself. Though it look like Cedric is gonna make a second attempt to freeze Sofia, he immediately turns the staff on Grimtrix, as he had fully given up on his goal of taking over Enchancia. Cedric immediately freezes him and his pet weasel Wriggley before destroying the staff's Medusa Stone, causing the royal family and the guards to become unfrozen. Grimtrix and Wriggley are then arrested and sent to the dungeons.
Following Grimtrix's defeat and arrest, the Order of the Wand's current status is unknown but it is presumably disbanded after the Good Sorcerers, who were alerted of Grimtrix's plan by Sofia, apparently stopped Baron Von Rocha and Greylock before restoring each of the kingdoms they had captured. In addition, what became of Morgana and the other two members are unknown. As for the wizard who was frozen by Grimtrix, he was freed from the effects of the latter's Medusa stone after Cedric destroyed it.
