"PS You're Fired" is the first segment of the fifty-fourth episode of the Disney Channel animated series Kiff.
Synopsis[]
Principal Secretary fires his mom.
Plot[]
As they usually do on Fridays, Kiff and Barry have volunteered to manage Principal Secretary's outgoing mail for him in his office while he goes out for his regular Friday snack, a fruit cup from the Fruit-a-Go-Go food truck stationed outside Table Town Middle School. In the middle of this, Principal Secretary's mother Secretary Mom calls up the office requesting to speak with her son, so Kiff and Barry transfer her call to Principal Secretary's mobile line. Looking out the window, the duo see Principal Secretary taking the call and panicking over what he hears. He immediately rushes back to his office and asks why his mother received an employment termination letter from him instead of the birthday card he intended to send her. Kiff and Barry realize that they must have accidentally mixed up the two letters.
Wanting to right their wrong, Kiff and Barry set up a meeting between Principal Secretary and Secretary Mom at Sips Soda Fountain. Before the meeting, Kiff and Barry encourage Principal Secretary to patch things up with his mother by simply going along with whatever she says. As she is still too upset to see her son, Kiff tricks her into coming by sending her a text saying she has won the chance to meet Chubbles Wubbington at the diner over milkshakes. Upon arriving, Secretary Mom realizes she has been duped and turns to leave, but Principal Secretary gives her an "apology milkshake" and convinces her to stay. The two talk things over, and Secretary Mom suggests that Principal Secretary can make up for "firing" her by hiring her. Following Kiff and Barry's advice, Principal Secretary reluctantly agrees to hire her as his co-principal.
The next week, Secretary Mom begins her new job at Table Town Middle School. Principal Secretary, however, becomes increasingly frustrated by his mother's various actions on the job, such as taking over his office desk, having a second intercom system installed for her own school announcements, and embarrassing him in front of the students with her displays of motherly affection, including showing baby pictures of him during her many school assemblies and calling him "Princy".
Worried about Principal Secretary, Kiff and Barry check up on him, and he admits that he is finding it difficult to run the school alongside his mother. It then occurs to Principal Secretary that school policy dictates that the school cannot have two principals, and that he can use this as an excuse to make his mother leave her job without having to fire her. When he brings this up to Secretary Mom, he is pleasantly surprised to find her in agreement that there can only be one principal, only to later find out that she thinks he will be the one giving up his principal duties. Unable to bring himself to tell her otherwise, Principal Secretary lets her show him out of their office.
Kiff and Barry return to the principal's office for another "Fruit Cup Friday" mail-sorting session and are surprised to see that the office has been entirely refurnished by Secretary Mom, who has decorated it with numerous quilts. The duo find Principal Secretary whimpering in a storage closet and advise him that to return things to normal, he needs to actually fire his mother. Kiff devises a plan to "fire her without firing her".
At Secretary Mom's next assembly, Kiff and Barry disguise Principal Secretary as a student named "Little Charlie Tabletot" and organize a musical performance for him in which he is to announce that Secretary Mom has been promoted to the made-up position of "super principal", "a new position where you are the principal overseeing all schools ever, and it's a work-from-home position, so you won't have to spend so much time at the school." Midway through, however, Principal Secretary decides to finally be honest with his mother. He takes off his disguise and sings a new song in which he fires her, yet also expresses how much he loves and appreciates her.
Though Principal Secretary worries he may have upset his mother again, Secretary Mom loves the song and says she is proud of him for standing up for himself, also admitting that she never actually wanted the job and only pursued it out of principle. With the situation resolved at last, the two share a loving embrace onstage. After school, Principal Secretary, Secretary Mom, Kiff, and Barry enjoy a fruit cup meal together. Kiff asks Principal Secretary who the intended recipient of the termination letter was, to which he responds that the letter was not meant for anyone in particular, and that it was simply a letter he kept in his office in case he needed to fire somebody in the future – a "fire drill". Instead of laughing at his pun, Kiff, Barry, and Secretary Mom are all baffled by this explanation.
