Pansy, Poppy, and Petunia are characters from the Splash Mountain attraction at the Disney Parks.
History[]
Background[]
Pansy, Poppy, and Petunia are three identical opossums. Each of them wears a yellow bow and a thin tutu and are shown to have a happy personality and are always seen hanging upside-down.
Development[]
Pansy, Poppy, and Petunia are actually recycled versions of the three hanging baby opossums from the "Going South" sequences of the defunct America Sings attraction where they were seen during the "I Wish I Was a Single Girl Again" musical sequence where the said animatronics were redressed into female opossums when most of the animatronics from America sings moved to Splash Mountain on July 17, 1989. Due to to the success of the attraction at Disneyland, the Splash Mountain attraction was later constructed at Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland, still featuring Pansy, Poppy, and Petunia in it.
As of 2020, Splash Mountain has been announced for closure in Disneyland and Walt Disney World in a plan to retheme the attraction into a Princess and the Frog-themed attraction due to controversy surrounding the film Song of the South which Splash Mountain is based on. Therefore, it is currently unknown of what will replace the opossum trio, Pansy, Poppy, and Petunia in the rethemed version of the attraction while The Oriental Land Company has not announced whether they plan to retheme the Tokyo Disneyland version of the attraction.
Role in the attraction[]
In the Disneyland version of the attraction, Pansy, Poppy, and Petunia were seen during the "How Do You Do?" sequence where they were seen harmonizing with each other and passing through the singing possums were Br'er Roadrunner and Br'er Rabbit just before passing through a section where a lone alligator sang his own version of "How Do You Do?".
In the Magic Kingdom version of the attraction, Pansy, Poppy, and Petunia were encountered during the "Everybody's Got a Laughing Place" sequence where they were heard singing along to the song and next to the trio was Br'er Roadrunner who was curious of Br'er Rabbit encountering his own Laughing Place just as the possums continued singing along. Passing through the trio of opossums was a home containing the names of Pansy, Poppy, and Petunia which were seen on their individual mailboxes, implying that these were the names of the opossums the guests passed through.
In the Tokyo Disneyland version, Pansy, Poppy, and Petunia are encountered during the "Everybody's Got a Laughing Place" sequence where they appear next to Br'er Roadrunner like in the Florida version, albeit the opossums wearing thin blue tutus instead of pink tutus unlike in the California and Florida versions of the attraction.

Trivia[]
- In the Tsum Tsum merchandise, one of the opossums identical to Pansy, Poppy, and Petunia is named "Sis Possum".[1]
- Poppy is the only opossum from Splash Mountain who was included in the Disney Parks Wishables toyline included within the Splash Mountain-themed Wishables packaging. Additionally, out of all of them, Poppy is the only one part of the Splash Mountain lineup for Disney Wishables who did not originate in the original Song of the South film itself, making her a unique character. The rest of the other ones (Br'er Fox, Br'er Bear, and Br'er Frog with Br'er Rabbit himself being a limited edition one) all originated from the original Song of the South film.
