The Papyrus of Binding is a mystical artifact. When you write on the Papyrus, anything you ask it for will become a reality. It is one of the missing mysteries of Isabella Finch and was first seen in "The First Adventure!" It is the only known artifact from Finch's journal to be destroyed. In "The Last Adventure!", the Papyrus came back in the form of a contract.
History[]
The Papyrus was originally crafted by mystics in Ancient Egypt for the Pharaohs, but it proved to be too powerful because if one wasn't very specific with what the asked for, the request could be misinterpreted and lead to disastrous consequences. Wars were fought over it for centuries until it was stolen from the Spanish Armada by Yellowbeak the pirate. However, Yellowbeak would fall victim to the Papyrus' dangerous misinterpretations by asking it to allow him to escape the Spaniards, only for the Papyrus to banish his ship and crew the top of a mountain on an uncharted island in the Bermuda Trapazoid. He would later ask it for water and the Papyrus created a flood that cause his crew to drown on dry land. Lastly, Yellowbeak asked the Papyrus to free him from its curse, which the Papyrus interpreting as ending his life.
In "The First Adventure!", the secret organization S.H.U.S.H, eventually discovered the location of the Papryus and sent Agent Scrooge McDuck, joined by his niece and nephew Donald and Della, to retrieve it. However, F.O.W.L agents Black Heron and Bradford Buzzard (the latter of whom used his former position in S.H.U.S.H to learn about the Papyrus) disguise themselves as the S.H.U.S.H plane pilots and reach the island first. Heron plots to use the Papyrus against Scrooge, but Bradford is against the idea because of the Papyrus's potentially catastrophic interpretations. Scrooge's team reaches the Papyrus first and learns of Yellowbeak's fate from a last testament he wrote on it, but Heron steals it, and Bradford is exposed in the process. Against Bradford's warnings, uses it try and to kill Donald and Della by writing "On this mission, Scrooge's sidekicks perish." However, nothing happens to Donald and Della and Scrooge realizes it didn't work because they aren't sidekicks on a mission; they're family on an adventure. Heron then uses the Papyrus to bring Yellowbeak's skeleton to life and has it attack Scrooge and his family. In the ensuing fight, Yellowbeak's skeleton is destroyed, and Bradford uses the Papyrus to disappear and erase all memories of his presence from the Duck's memories. Scrooge gets the Papyrus, but Heron takes Donald and Della hostage. To protect his family, Scrooge asks the Papyrus to become lost until his heir can find it, meaning Heron can't kill his family without the Papyrus being lost forever.
The Papyrus would eventually reappear in the lost library of Alexandria, but it would be left unable to be claimed by anyone except an heir of Scrooge. To bypass this, Bradford used genetic engineering to create artificial heirs to obtain the scroll.
In "The Last Adventure!", Bradford tries to trick Huey into obtaining the Papyrus, but that fails when Huey discovers his true plans. Bradford is eventually able to trick Webby into obtaining the Papyrus and uses it to create a magical contract that will force Scrooge to stop adventuring forever in exchange for his family. Scrooge is forced to sign the contract to save a captive Donald's life, but his family discovers a fatal contradiction in the contract because "family is the greatest adventure of all." This nullifies the contract and causes the Papyrus to dissolve into nothing.
