Pepperinge Eye is a town featured in the 1971 Disney musical fantasy film Bedknobs and Broomsticks, based on the books by Mary Norton. The town is located on the southern coast of England, near the Isle of Naboombu. It is the home of Miss Eglantine Price (Angela Lansbury), a witch-in-training who uses her magic to help the British forces during World War II. A quaint and picturesque town that reflects its rural and historical charm, it has a church, a pub, a post office, a museum, and several cottages. The town is surrounded by green fields and hills and overlooks the sea.

History[]

Pepperinge Eye was founded in the 17th century by a group of witches who fled from persecution in London. They established a secret society called the Order of Astaroth, named after their patron demon. The Order practiced various forms of magic, including animal transformation, invisibility, and flying. They also created a magical bedknob that could transport them to any place and time they wished.

The Order was led by Professor Emelius Browne (David Tomlinson), a charismatic but incompetent wizard who claimed to have a direct connection to Astaroth. However, he was actually a fraud who stole his spells from an enchanted book called The Spells of Astaroth, which he found in an old bookshop. He kept the book hidden from the other witches, who trusted him blindly.

In 1940, during the Blitz, Browne left Pepperinge Eye and moved to London, where he opened a correspondence school of witchcraft. He hoped to make money by selling his stolen spells to aspiring witches. One of his students was Miss Price, who lived in Pepperinge Eye with three orphaned children: Charlie (Ian Weighill), Carrie (Cindy O'Callaghan), and Paul (Roy Snart). She wanted to learn magic to help the war effort and hoped to obtain the spell for substitutiary locomotion, which could animate inanimate objects.

Miss Price received a letter from Browne informing her that he was closing his school and that he had sent her his last spell. However, the spell was incomplete, as Browne had lost the book. Miss Price decided to track him down and get the rest of the spell. She used the bedknob to fly to London with the children, where they met Browne and convinced him to join them.

They returned to Pepperinge Eye with the book, which they discovered had been torn in half by a lion named King Leonidas (voiced by Lennie Weinrib), the ruler of Naboombu. They used the bedknob to travel to Naboombu, a mythical island inhabited by anthropomorphic animals. There, they managed to retrieve the other half of the book and learn the spell for substitutiary locomotion.

Back in Pepperinge Eye, they found out that the town was under attack by a group of Nazi soldiers who had landed on the coast. Miss Price used her magic to animate an army of suits of armor, weapons, and household objects and led them into battle against the invaders. The Nazis were defeated and fled back to their boats. Miss Price and Browne celebrated their victory with a kiss, while the children cheered.
