"Pirates of the Scareibbean" was a scrapped retheming of the Disneyland version of Pirates of the Caribbean. It was supposed to be a nighttime retheming of the attraction, but was ultimately scrapped.
History[]
"Pirates of the Scareibbean" was a nighttime retheme of the original attraction. The idea was that during sunset every day, it would have used the same mechanic as in the standard version. However, instead of following the same route in the standard version of the attraction, the track would switch where the boats would enter an alternate route which took the guests behind several pre-existing sets and new scenes where the pools of moonlight would revealed to be skeletal pirates similar to the ones from the successful 2003 Disney live-action film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. However, it was likely scrapped in favor of Jack Sparrow, Hector Barbossa, and Davy Jones from the film series being integrated to the original attraction in 2006.
Trivia[]
- A concept similar to the scrapped "Pirates of the Scareibbean" retheme was later used in the Disney California Adventure attraction, "Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!" whose Halloween overlay was titled "Monsters After Dark".
