Placid Palms or Typhoon Lagoon is the setting of Walt Disney World's water-park of the same name.
Background[]
History[]
Placid Palms is a tropical region in the south-west of a region called Blustery Bay. Placid Palms was largely based around the volcano Mount Mayday and its surrounding lagoon. Placid Palms hosted a shrimping industry, the Tropical Amity Fruit Exporters company, and attracted adventurers treasure-hunters such as the likes of Trader Sam or Captain Mary Oceaneer aboard her vessel the MS Salty IV.
Around the 1950s, the bay was hit by a massive tropical hurricane which threw the location into pandemonium. The ship the Miss Tilly which Trader Sam was travelling upon was beached atop Mount Mayday while Oceaneer's ship was wrecked near Miss Adventure Falls with her treasures scattered throughout the bay. Following the storm, locals renamed the region to, "Typhoon Lagoon" and made it a disaster-themed tourist-location.
The mascot for Typhoon Lagoon was an alligator known as Lagoona Gator which lived along the lagoon and which was featured in several films shot at the lagoon. Attractions included the old plant for Tropical Amity Fruit Exporters being transformed turned into a rafting ride called the, "Crush 'n' Gusher" while local shark-hunter, "Hammerhead Fred" lead scuba tours of Shark Reef.
