Agent Wendell Pleakley is the tritagonist in the 2025 live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch. He is the one-eyed, "noodly" alien and a member of the Galactic Federation and self-proclaimed “Earth expert”, Pleakley became the partner of Jumba Jookiba on a mission to capture the escaped criminal Experiment 626.
He is based on the character of the same name from the 2002 animated film.
Appearances[]
Lilo & Stitch[]
As an agent of the Galactic Federation and self-proclaimed expert on Earth, Wendell Pleakley interrupted his leader, the Grand Councilwoman, in her decision to exploit the planet after the criminal Experiment 626 crashed in Hawaii and prevented the destruction by declaring it a breeding ground for mosquitoes, an endangered species. In order to catch 626, Pleakley was ordered by the Grand Councilwoman to escort 626's creator, the deranged Dr. Jumba Jookiba, and help him capture the creature, while keeping Jumba under control, an order which Pleakley excitedly accepted.
On Jumba's ship, Pleakley expressed his excitement about the trip to Earth and insisted that he and Jumba would become best friends, though the scientist was annoyed by his presence and possible involvement in his evil techniques. Upon arriving in Hawaii, Pleakley recommended that Jumba blend in with humanity for the hunt, leading the two to take on the human appearances of two hotel residents to remain inconspicuous, with Pleakley preventing Jumba from revealing his presence. During the operation, Pleakley and Jumba constantly pursued 626, who was renamed "Stitch" and adopted by a little girl named Lilo Pelekai. After failing in his last opportunity, Pleakley contacted the Grand Councilwoman, who ordered him to capture Jumba and cancel his deal to absorb him from his positions, forcing the agent to arrest him, however, Jumba used his portal gun to betray Pleakley, deciding to capture his creation by his own means.
After managing to escape from the laundry room, Pleakley used a bicycle to travel to Lilo's house, where Jumba attacked to capture Stitch, although Pleakley attempted to help, only to be sprayed in the eye by Lilo. Following the destruction of the house, Pleakley was found by Cobra Bubbles, a CIA special agent, who attempted to arrest him, but Cobra was convinced by Nani Pelekai, Lilo's older sister, to help save her sister. At the beach, Pleakley and the others saw Lilo and Stitch being rescued by Nani, but Stitch was unable to wake up due to being submerged for a long time, however, Lilo suggested using the cables from Nani's car to wake him up, so Pleakley gave his help to revive Stitch.
Suddenly, the Grand Councilwoman and her agents arrived in Hawaii in their ship, where they captured the defeated Jumba and planned to imprison Stitch, but realizing Stitch's connection to the Pelekai, Pleakley questioned whether he could allow Stitch to stay on Earth, quickly offering to stay on as an oversight agent, with Cobra, at Pleakley's suggestion, promising to keep quiet about what happened, so the Grand Councilwoman agreed to allow Stitch to remain exiled on Earth. Soon after, Pleakley joined the Pelekai ʻohana and occasionally visited the family home to have fun with his new friends.
Trivia[]
- Unlike the original character, Pleakley does not disguise himself in women's clothing. Instead, he and Jumba use holographic devices that make them look like humans.
- Many fans were upset that the character's cross-dressing habit was not included. When asked, Dean Fleischer Camp simply responded, "I tried", before showing concept art.[1]
- It remains to be seen whether the concept will be revisited albeit with different approach taking into account of Pleakley uses holographic technology to assume human disguise.
- In contrast to his original 2002 counterpart, this version of Pleakley used a gun while chasing after Stitch.
- His first name in this version is Wendell, instead of Wendy.
- This version of Pleakley is a lot less reluctant about going to Earth with Jumba to capture Stitch, and it’s shown that he always liked to go to Earth. He also thought that he and Jumba would be the best of friends during the mission, of which he turned out to be wrong when Jumba eventually betrayed and ditched him for his own true purpose of catching Stitch. Cobra Bubbles pretty much becomes his new best friend, instead of Jumba who never wanted to be friended or even partnered with Pleakley to begins with.
- It's possible that in the sequel he'll be able to befriend Jumba for real.
