Pocahontas' Necklace is an object in the 1995 Disney animated feature film Pocahontas. It was given to Pocahontas by her father, Chief Powhatan, as her mother had worn it on their wedding day.

Pocahontas[]

After Pocahontas' father returns from war, she learns that Kocoum, one of his finest and fiercest warriors, has asked him to marry her. She doesn't feel that this is the right path for her, but Powhatan feels that Kocoum would be a fine husband for her, as he is steady and serious, as well as brave, loyal, strong, and protective and gives his daughter the necklace, saying his wife wore it during their wedding and she also wished for her daughter to wear it at hers. After hearing this, Pocahontas travels to Grandmother Willow in order to gain some advice, where the latter recognizes the necklace. After telling Grandmother Willow about her dream and Powhatan's plans for her arranged marriage to Kocoum, Grandmother Willow tells her that her dream is pointing her down her path.

That night, despite Nakoma's protests, Pocahontas sneaks off to meet Smith. They reveal that their respective people are planning for war. She asks him to come to her village and speak with her father in an attempt to avoid fighting. He is reluctant at first but agrees after some advice from Grandmother Willow. When Kocoum, who had been warned about Pocahontas by Nakoma, suddenly stumbles upon her and Smith kissing in Grandmother Willow's glade, he becomes enraged and attacks him. Before she can break them up, Thomas, who had been sent to find John, shoots and kills Kocoum to protect him. As Kocoum falls, he grabs hold of Pocahontas' necklace and it shatters into pieces in the process.

At the end of the film, Percy, Meeko, and Flit reveal that they have repaired the necklace and give it back to a grateful Pocahontas, who puts it back on.

Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World[]

John Rolfe and Pocahontas are determined to impress King James and Queen Anne at the ball. Pocahontas and Mrs. Jenkins are upstairs getting the former ready for the ball by putting her on a corset, a hoop skirt, and high heels. Rolfe then teaches her to dance and act in front of English society. When John Rolfe gives Pocahontas a new golden emerald necklace, she takes off her mother's and puts on the new one. Flit tries to give her her mothers necklace, but Pocahontas states it does not belong where they are at. John Rolfe later gives Pocahontas her old necklace back on when she is freed from prison and confronts the king.
