It is the fifth most populous member state of the European Union. Its capital and largest city is Warsaw. The origin of its name "Poland" derives from the West Slavic tribe of Polans (Polanie). It shares a border with Germany, Czechia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Belarus, and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, and has a population of 38 million, most of them being Catholic Christians. Poland has the words biggest ethnic diaspora, with Poles making up a significant minority in Russia, Latvia, and Germany.
