Polaris (real name Lorna Dane) is a character who is expected to appear in the second season of the Marvel Studios Animation series X-Men '97, which is a direct continuation of the 1992 X-Men animated series. She is a Mutant with the same powers as her father, Magneto, to control magnetism. She is also a former member of the X-Men who went on to join the mutant team known as the X-Factor.
Polaris was created by Arnold Drake, Don Heck and Werner Roth.
Lorna was an early member of the X-Men alongside her boyfriend, Iceman. Together, they fought to defend both humanity and mutantkind. When Lorna nearly died during a mission, the pair decided to leave the X-Men to live normal lives. As the mutant crisis became increasingly acute, Lorna began to feel that they had a duty to use their powers to help their people. Forge approached her to join the X-Factor, a team of mutants organized by the government to fight for mutantkind. Lorna accepted the offer, but believed that Bobby would never go along with the idea if he were to know. So, she faked her disappearance and left to join X-Factor. There, she met Havok, a fellow mutant who shared her ideals of fighting for the betterment of mutantkind.
An alternate, older Polaris makes a non-speaking cameo appearance in the episode "Tolerance is Extinction" (Part 1). She is seen using her powers to begin building a post-human utopia in a possible future where Bastion successfully converted the entire human race into Sentinels.
