"Pond Hockey" is the seventh episode of the Disney+ Original Series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, and the seventh episode of the series overall. It was released on Disney+ on May 7, 2021.
Synopsis[]
The Don't Bothers are still angry with Evan for going to a Ducks practice, so Alex locks them in a players-only meeting to solve the issue – but it devolves into all-out war. With Alex unsure of her coaching skills, Bombay takes the kids to an idyllic frozen pond to reconnect and discover a love of the game. The team is on the mend, but Sam isn't acting like himself, and Sofi still won't forgive Evan. Alex and the team struggle to find their hockey instincts before going up against the Hornets.
Plot[]
Following on from the previous revelation that Evan has been practicing with the Ducks, the Don't Bothers are furious with him and refuse to talk with him. When he arrives at the Ice Palace, he pleads with Alex to walk around the block once more and avoid contact with the team. Alex refuses, however, and locks all of the Don't Bothers in the locker room until they settle their differences.
The Don't Bothers are reluctant to take on board Evan's reasoning, citing that he betrayed them and broke their team. As things start to heat up, Evan is saved when the power at the Ice Palace goes out. Bombay tries to fix it, but is unable to do so and decides that the team will try something different instead of cancelling practice.
Gordon takes all of the Don't Bothers to a frozen pond where he used to train, citing that this will unite them once again as a team. The team, however, are reluctant, and Alex warns that the ice is dangerous and could crack at any time. Nonetheless, Gordon explains that the ice will hold them and training will go ahead as planned. On the ice, the team enjoy playing against one another but fail to reconcile with one another. To rectify this, Coach Bombay takes away the puck and in its place, puts their mobile phones. The team aren't impressed, but this teaches them to be gentle and coordinate with one another.
At work, Alex is handed an assignment by Stephanie, and the two get talking about practice. Alex explains how she is no longer the coach of the Don't Bothers given Bombay does a much better job and is an official coach. Stephanie, however, convinces her that she should go back to the team and take her position as rightful coach of the team. After some thinking, Alex returns to the ice and takes lead of the team, but this quickly goes south when she suggests the team blindfold one another and base their game around faith. The team are quickly distracted, however, when they receive a text revealing that Sam is quitting the team and clearing out his locker as they speak.
Arriving at the Ice Palace, the team try to convince Sam to stay, but Sam is reluctant to do so after Evan's behavior made him feel thrown away. Evan apologizes once more and is eventually forgiven by the team, and Sam opts to remain a Don't Bother.
On the ice, the team ready to play but are missing a coach. Bombay talks with Alex and reveals that he cut the power to the Ice Palace to change the scene and eventually, get the Don't Bothers back together. With this, he convinces Alex to take her position as the coach of the Don't Bothers and they are eventually able to win their game.
