"Portrait of a Vampire" is the second segment of the second episode of Vampirina. It premiered on October 1, 2017 alongside "The Sleepover".
Plot[]
Vampirina prepares everything for her first day of school, which is tomorrow morning, with Poppy helping out. She mentions about how great her school back in Romania was, and wonders what her new school will be like. Poppy reassures Vampirina that everything will be fine in her new school, and they both go to sleep.
The next morning, Demi wakes Vampirina up and gives her the perfect clothes. However, Vampirina has her perfect outfit. Oxana and Boris are preparing something in the kitchen when Vampirina appears. Boris and Oxana give her a new backpack and a snapdragon, respectively. Just as Poppy rings the door, Vampirina is also provided with lunch, which is black jumping beans with Oxana's secret spooky sauce.
School then begins, and Vampirina tells Poppy, Edgar, and Bridget that she is nervous about her first day of school. They tell her that there is nothing to be nervous about with some exceptions. Vampirina already has friends, and it's not like a vampire to be scared. In the classroom, they get introduced to their teacher, Mr. Gore. Poppy also hopes that Vampirina will add her leaf to the class tree today. Vampirina then gives Mr. Gore a snapdragon, which scares him, although he says that it's lovely. Edgar likes the plant. Mr. Gore then introduces everyone to Vampirina, the new student. She then runs to the front desk, whisking the papers as a result. She states that she's really excited before introducing the class to her and her likes. The class then notices the hopping lunch box. Vampirina mentions about the jumping beans. Poppy reassures Vampirina that she's doing great and that art class will help her relax.
There, Mr. Gore tells Vampirina that the assignment is to paint someone that's special to her. She can make her leaf for the class tree before starting a painting. Although Vampirina is nervous, Poppy reassures her that she'll get used to everything. Vampirina quickly makes her leaf and is about to have her picture taken when she continuously turns into a bat. As Mr. Gore goes to print the picture, Vampirina tells Bridget and Poppy about how bad everything went. Just then, pictures get printed. One is a spaceship while the other is Vampirina as a bat. She begins to lose hope when Poppy suggests taking another picture before Mr. Gore sees.
Mr. Gore then appears, and Vampirina tells her that the picture she crumpled got jammed in the printer. Just then, the school bell rings, and Mr. Gore tells Vampirina that her picture will have to be printed on the tree tomorrow. At home, Vampirina tells her parents everything that happened at school, including her picture as a bat. Boris tells her that bright lights startle lots of vampires. Gregoria mentions that Uncle Dieter used to turn into a bat every time a camera flashed. Oxana and Boris suggest paintings capturing a vampire in the most enchanting way. However, Vampirina states that if she can't take a picture, she will never be a real part of the class. She then leaves for her room. However, Poppy has an idea.
At school, Boris tells Vampirina that all she has to do is go in the school, put her best wing forward, and try again. Vampirina agrees to do so, and Oxana gives her a ghoul luck kiss. In school, Vampirina is met by Poppy, who gives her a portrait of her new best friend, because Vampirina is special to her. Mr. Gore likes it, and states that this is an example of true friendship. He then agrees for Vampirina to use Poppy's painting of her for the class tree. Vampirina says that school in Pennsylvania will be just fine.
