This article is about the castle from the live action adaptation. For the castle from the animated film, see Prince Eric's Castle.
Prince Eric's Castle is one of the main settings for the 2023 live action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. It is home to Prince Eric and his adoptive mother, Queen Selina, and later Ariel following her marriage to Eric.
It is based on the castle from the animated film.
Background[]
21 years before the events of the film, King Maximillius and his wife Queen Selina were living in this castle as they witnessed a baby being brought to shore after a terrible storm. Selina and Maximillius adopted the baby as their own son, who was named Eric, after his birth parents died. Eric was raised in the castle for 21 years, becoming a prince. Eric soon began to feel isolated from his kingdom and the outside world, with a thirst for adventure, something he loved even in adulthood.
At some point in Eric's teenhood, king Maximillius died and Selina continued to raise Eric in the castle by herself, with the help of prime minister and advisor, Grimsby, who Eric saw as a father figure.
Location[]
The palace is located in the Caribbean, close to the waters in which Ariel is originally from, ruled by her father, King Triton. The castle is close to a nearby town in which Ariel and Eric visit when she becomes human for a short time, which is located near a lagoon.
Trivia[]
- Unlike the original castle, which is located in Italy, this one is located in the Caribbean.
- While there are various rooms shown in the animated film, the castle in the live action film only shows the rooms like the dinning room, the room in which Ariel discovers Eric's collections, the guest bedroom where Ariel stays, and the exterior.
