Princess Pei-Pei is a stoic, yet graceful person. Known for her beauty and poise, she is also open-minded and idealistic and refuses to be held back by traditions and restrictions. She cares strongly for her people and values their lives over her own. She is also very fond of Chon Wang with a strong implication of romance. However, she put her own duty above her relationship, something that Chon was willing to abide by.

- Lucy Liu would go on to play another princess in a Disney production. She voiced Princess Mei in Mulan II.
- Princess Pei-Pei did not return in Shanghai Knights, most likely due to Lucy Liu's commitments to Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and Kill Bill.
