Queen Prunaprismia is a character featured in the 2008 Disney/Walden Media adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
Background[]
Prunaprismia is the wife of Miraz, the former king of Telmarine-ruled Narnia. She is shown to have black hair all over her head. In addition to her duty as queen, she is also shown to use a crossbow in combat, indicating she must have been trained to use it in case whenever threat occurs within her, such as the raid at Miraz's Castle. She is shown to have a sympathetic personality when it concerns her nephew; even though is shown to love Miraz, she became horrified of his act of fratricide for what her husband did - although she doesn't seem to be hateful towards Caspian.
Role in the film[]
Prunaprismia is first seen giving birth to a newborn son where the servants of her castle are gathered to see her new son. After his birth, the Queen became happy that she has a son while Glozelle approaches Miraz and tells him that he has a son, just before telling him to alert the town that the Queen has a son. The next day, Miraz hands his wife his son so that he would take care of him just before he enters the castle to consult with the Telmarine council about their plans to conquer Narnia.
Later, Prunaprismia is later seen sleeping with Miraz just before Caspian wakes her up, telling him to put down his sword, only to be defended by Susan just as Caspian asks him if he wants the truth, telling his uncle if he really did kill his father. Prunaprismia later realizes of what Miraz did, just as the latter denounces his nephew for being fatherless, which the Queen screams, causing a commotion inside the castle. The next day, Prunaprismia is present during Miraz's coronation where the Telmarines celebrate the coronation of having a new king in their kingdom.
After Miraz's death with the war between Narnians and Telmarines put to an end, Prunaprismia is left as the sole surviving ruler of Miraz's Castle following the king's death. Prunaprismia is later seen attending her nephew's coronation where Caspian is crowned as the king of the Telmarines. Caspian then gives out a speech that Narnia should have their own land in peace and any Telmarines who want to stay and live in peace are welcome. As Prunaprismia accepts the offer, alongside Glozelle just before Aslan approaches him, followed by the Pevensies returning to the real world.
Differences from source material[]
- In the original Prince Caspian novelization by C.S. Lewis, Prunaprismia makes no physical appearance at all with her name only mentioned via text. Not much of Prunaprismia's personality is known in the books, where it was stated that she and Caspian disliked each other. Thus, this makes Prunaprismia's personality unknown of how much if she was involved with her husband's schemes.
- Prunaprismia is also mentioned to have red hair in the book, unlike her depiction in the Disney/Walden Media adaptation of Prince Caspian who has black hair.
Trivia[]
- There is a deleted scene in the Blu-ray and three-disc DVD releases of the Disney/Walden media adaptation of Prince Caspian where Miraz holds his son and Prunaprismia approaches her, asking her husband where Caspian is. This scene shows that Prunaprismia shows a sympathetic concern towards her nephew.
