Prunella Pullet[1][2] is a character featured in the 1935 Silly Symphony animated short Cock o' the Walk.
Background[]
Personality[]
Prunella is a teenage[3] hen who is shown to be Hick Rooster's love interest. During her relationship with Hick, she happily reacts to an ear of corn which he gave her, happy that this is the gift she likes. However, she becomes distracted upon seeing the Cock o' the Walk, leaving her disinterested into continuing her relationship with Hick. Later, when Prunella looks at the champ's family photo, she reveals that he is not related to her at all, putting Hick in place of the champ as her love interest. After Hick manages to defeat the champ, Prunella praises him for being a hero, making Hick her love interest again.
Appearances[]
Cock o' the Walk[]
Prunella is first seen sitting on a stool next to a fence where Hick Rooster gives her an ear of corn. She happily reacts to the gift that Hick gave to her, making her feel grateful of his gift, just as she kisses him for giving her this gift. However, Prunella becomes distracted upon seeing the Cock o' the Walk pass by, making her disinterested into spending her relationship with Hick, just as she goes to the boxing ring so that the champ can get her attention. She and the champ both dance the carioca together in the boxing ring, just as the two dance throughout the relationship, causing everyone to be attracted to the carioca dance.
Furthermore, Hick Rooster enters the boxing ring and defends Prunella from the champ, much to her feeling disinterested with Hick after Prunella reveals that she has a new boyfriend. The Cock o' the Walk places Prunella out of the ring to defend her just as he decides to defeat Hick. During the match, Prunella cheers on the champ to help him win, but the fight between both roosters causes the champ's bag to fall next to her. Prunella looks at a family photo of champ and his family - consisting of his wife and a group of hatchlings, just as she realizes that he is not part of Prunella's family.
Prunella smashes the champ's family photo onto his head and slaps him on the face, just before she worriedly notices Hick who is injured during the fight. This leads Prunella to encourage Hick to fight and beat the champ. To Hick's optimism, he was able to defeat the Cock o' the Walk, punching him and tossing him onto the world's champion trophy, which Prunella becomes impressed that he was able to defeat the champ. Afterwards, Hick dances with Prunella on the ring just before he kisses her, causing the two to fall in love.
Trivia[]
- Most of Prunella's animation in Cock o' the Walk was done by Bill Tytla, making almost every scene where said character appears be animated by said animator. The only scene where Prunella was not animated by Tytla was during the part where said character reveals the Cock o' the Walk's real family by looking at his photo.
- Although Prunella's name was not mentioned in the model sheet nor in the book Walt Disney's Silly Symphonies: A Companion to the Classic Cartoon Series (where said character was simply labeled as "girl" in said book on the Cock o' the Walk entry), her name was revealed in a 1995 Disney Sweethearts set of stamps released to commemorate Valentine's Day, along with Hick Rooster.[2] It was also revealed in the Encyclopedia of Walt Disney's Animated Characters.[1]
