The Pumpkin-in-the-Box is a Halloween-themed jack-in-the-box consisting of a pumpkin figure that pops out of it in place of a standard clown or jester. The front side of the box where the toy was decorated is depicted with an illustration of a clown and on the right side is a crank, which typical jack in the boxes have.
The Pumpkin-in-the-Box was made during the "Making Christmas" sequence to be one of Jack Skellington's macabre Christmas presents. It was one of the jack in the boxes created by the Clown with the Tear-Away Face as part of Jack's plans to take over Christmas, just before it was placed in Jack's sleigh.
Jack Skellington gives the Pumpkin-in-the-Box to a child wearing glasses when he gives presents to the little kids in the real world - although not seen onscreen. As it comes to life, the Pumpkin-in-the-Box begins to come to life and chase the child, frightening him while making a sinister laugh just as it corners him, fearing that this is the most unusual toy he got for Christmas. Near the end of the movie, Santa Claus comes and replaces the pumpkin in the box cornering the child with a candy cane, making the child happy. He does the same with the other toys that Jack delivered, as Santa manages to save Christmas.
The Pumpkin-in-the-Box was a playable character in the discontinued mobile game. It was originally only obtainable through purchasing the limited time "Terrifying Toy Bundle" (alongside the Vampire Teddy and Toy Duck) via in-app purchases through the use of real-world money in 2016 and later obtainable as one of the prizes obtainable through Ticket Machine if the player did not purchase said bundle in time.
In both versions of Haunted Mansion Holiday, the Pumpkin in the Box is encountered in the attic scene in animatronic form as one of the two jack-in-the-boxes encountered within the scene. It is seen popping out of a jack in the box with an image of a clown on it.
