This article is about the X-Men Quicksilver. For the MCU character, see Quicksilver.

Quicksilver (real name Peter Maximoff) is a character from Marvel Comics who appears in the X-Men film series. He is mutant with speed powers and the son of Magneto.

Quicksilver was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Background[]

Peter Maximoff is the son of Ms. Maximoff with her ex-lover Erik Lehnsherr, who is known as Magneto. Peter inherited the X-Gene from his father, which gives him superhuman speed. He was raised in America by his mother. His father left her before he was born, so he didn't know him growing up. He has also two younger sisters.

Appearances[]

X-Men: Days of Future Past[]

In Days of Future Past, Quicksilver is depicted as an American teenager named "Peter Maximoff" and an acquaintance of Wolverine in the future. After Logan goes back in time to 1973, he recruits Quicksilver (along with Charles Xavier and Beast), to help break Magneto, out of the pentagon.

X-Men: Apocalypse[]

In X-Men: Apocalypse, Quicksilver rescues almost the entire student body of the Xavier School single-handedly from an explosion inadvertently caused by Havok. Quicksilver later goes on to participate in the final battle with Apocalypse, before joining the newly reformed X-Men. He had also learned that Magneto is his father, but chooses not to tell him.

Deadpool 2[]

Quicksilver, along with a few other members of the X-Men appear in a brief cameo. They can be seen conversing in another room, while Wade is in the X-Mansion, complaining that the studio hasn't allowed them to bring in one of the more famous members of the team.

Dark Phoenix[]

Quicksilver returns, albeit briefly, when he aids the team in rescuing the astronauts in space at the beginning of the film. During the mission, Jean Grey absorbs the Phoenix Force which begin to have an effect on her mental health and powers. When she goes to confront her father back at his home, Quicksilver is among the X-Men to try and bring Jean back to the mansion. A fight breaks out after Mystique is killed and, despite his speed, Quicksilver ends up getting tossed aside and severely injured. He does not reappear until the end of the film where he has made a full recovery, though jokes that he could have healed a lot faster.

Deadpool & Wolverine[]

Quicksilver was mentioned in Deadpool & Wolverine as one of the characters pruned by the TVA and sent to the Void, a wasteland inhabited by Alioth and Cassandra Nova. There, Quicksilver becomes part of a team consisting of Magneto, Elektra, Gambit, Human Torch, X-23, Punisher, and Daredevil, but later dies alongside Castle, Murdock and Lehnsherr while fighting Nova.

Trivia[]

  • Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer shot all of Quicksilver's scenes in 3,600 frames per second, to demonstrate his super-speed.
  • Quicksilver's unnamed younger sisters are a reference to Scarlet Witch and Polaris.
  • The actors who portray the two Quicksilvers (Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Evan Peters) appeared together in the movie Kick-Ass, which was a superhero movie based on a comic book by Icon, an imprint of Marvel Comics.
  • In the WandaVision series, despite the Pietro in Westview and the Quicksilver from the X-Men films being played by the same, which caused many to believe that they were the same character, the eighth episode reveals that Pietro in Westview is Ralph Bohner, an actual person who was the result of a "crystalline possession" who acted as Agatha Harkness' eyes and ears.
    • This had already been hinted when Agnes reavealed herself as the witch Agatha Harkness in the seventh episode and the one responsible for bringing Pietro to Westview, implying that he is actually someone else pretending to be Wanda's brother, instead of the Quicksilver from the X-Men films.
    • In seventh episode, this is also hinted when Wanda tells Billy and Tommy that this Pietro is not their uncle, when Vision calls him "impostor" and when "Pietro" captures Monica Rambeau during the post-credit scene.
