"Rabbit Takes a Holiday" is the first segment of the fourth episode of the third season of The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh that originally aired on ABC on September 8, 1990.
Synopsis[]
When Rabbit takes a vacation because of having no work to do, Tigger, Piglet, Pooh and Gopher must take care of Rabbit's garden but end up making his garden worse.
Plot[]
It's morning and Rabbit is working on his laundry when Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Gopher arrive to invite him to go swordfish hunting (even though there are no swordfish in the Hundred Acre Wood). Rabbit is too busy so they went without him, but not before Tigger says that all work and no play makes someone "something or other". Rabbit soon discovers that there is nothing to do - no dusting, no mopping, no pulling weeds, the apple trees don't need to be trimmed, and no leaves to rake; Rabbit thought about watering, only for a passing raincloud to tell him that it's already done.
With nothing left for him to do, Rabbit decides to take a vacation since he hasn't had one of those before. He packs his things just to visit his relations for the day. At first, he wants to tell his friends which would make them so happy for him they throw a going away party and mess up his house and Rabbit will have to clean it up instead of going on vacation, so he decides against it and goes without telling only to be surprised when Pooh came in to ask to borrow some honey. Rabbit tells Pooh what he's going to do and he doesn't want anyone going near his house or garden because everything has been taken care off and he'll be coming back tomorrow. Rabbit asks if what he told Pooh is clear to which Pooh replies perfectly, but after Rabbit leaves, Pooh has forgotten.
The next day, Pooh, Tigger, Piglet and Gopher arrive back at Rabbit's house only to discover that he's not home. Pooh tells them that Rabbit is away for the day but misinterprets what he told him saying he's worried because everything has to be taken care of. To that end, they decide as Rabbit's friends to take care of everything.
The first thing is to scare away the crows, so Gopher dresses Piglet as a scarecrow. The plan backfires as the crows overcrowd Piglet and eat all of the corn. At the same time, Tigger starts picking Rabbit's tomatoes thinking they're turning green with Pooh unsuccessfully trying to catch them. Later, Tigger is strolling down a path along the apple orchard when he trips on a root. Thinking that it will be hazardous for Rabbit's safety, Tigger tries to pull it out with Pooh helping while also trying to remember what Rabbit really told him. They pull the root so hard that it pulled all the apple trees to the ground. Later on, Tigger and Pooh decide to get the garden watered and get to work cleaning Rabbit's house. They use a hose connected to the sink to make the watering a lot quicker. They're both unaware that the hose is tied in a knot, preventing water from coming out and filling up. At this time, Gopher decides to use dynamite to grow the plants. Once he plunges the detonator, the place explodes and the hose has sprung a leak.
Meanwhile, Rabbit is upset because his relatives couldn't let him do a thing for himself and decides to have a vacation to recover from this vacation as he starts to return home. Back at Rabbit's house, the place is a total wreck when Pooh finally remembers what Rabbit told him. Realizing their mistake, they decide to keep Rabbit distracted while Gopher fixes the place up so he won't notice what happened.
Pooh, Piglet and Tigger meet with Rabbit and take him for welcome home meals like Tigger's place for breakfast, Piglet's for lunch, and Pooh's welcome home smackerel. Not understanding what's going on and wanting to be back home, Rabbit tries to get away from them but they prevent him and take him on a tour to see how the woods has changed while he was away. Finally fed up with this nonsense, Rabbit escapes them as they chase him, only for him to stop them and that he doesn't want anymore tours or meals. Rabbit is glad to be back in his home, only for him to discover the huge mess when he realizes that these are only painted pictures Gopher created. With their cover blown, Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, and Gopher decide to tell Rabbit the truth about what happened and hope that he's not terribly mad at them. Instead of being angry however, Rabbit is overjoyed because he can do some work around here (a most wonderful homecoming present). Tigger figured that since it turned out so well, he thinks that maybe tomorrow they ought to go over and wreck Piglet's house, much to Piglet's dismay.
