Costume evolution of Rafiki.
Picture | Years | As seen in | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
1994–present | Disney parks, and some Disney on Ice shows | This Rafiki is completely based on the animated version. In Disney on Ice, his toes a lot more visible, and a subtle change that happened was that his pupils are centered.
An articulated version also appeared in WDW's The Legend of The Lion King from 1994 to 2002 and Tokyo's Feel the Magic from 1995 to 1999. | |
2011 - 2015 | Disney on Ice: Passport to Adventure | ||
1997–present | The Lion King (musical) | This Rafiki is played by a Broadway actress. The make-up consists of yellow, red, blue, and white face paints. She also has a black frill around the chest, brown chunks on the red torso, and baggy beige pants. | |
September 6, 2019 – present | Disney on Ice: Road Trip Adventures | This Rafiki costume is the lightest for a skater to use. The mask has larger eyes, a bigger red nose, and exposes the performer's mouth. His beard is made up of strips instead of fur.
His thighs are a lot furrier than the rest of his body and he has three flesh toes instead of five brown ones. And unlike the other versions, this costume shows the performer's bare arms. As this look was seen in the highlights and promo, he was redesigned yet again with more fur and monkey mouth concealing the performer's arms and mouth respectively to make him better resemble the animated one. |
