"Rage Against the Vending Machine" is the first segment of the second episode of Zombies: The Re-Animated Series. It premiered on June 28, 2024 alongside "Young, Wild, and Free Period"
Synopsis[]
Eliza and Bucky compete to see whose vending machine is better.
Plot[]
Whenever things in the school break, such as the water fountain or the vending machine, Eliza is there to fix it. Her repairs are crude but manageable. But one day, Bucky declares he will have all the old lockers, water fountains, and vending machines replaced with new ones featuring his image. Eliza is firmly against these renovations. She believes old things should be maintained, not discarded and replaced. Bucky, as usual, does not listen to her protests and brings in a new vending machine. In a week, everything old will be removed from the school. So, Eliza makes a deal with Bucky to prove the old vending machine is still useful. If it can rack up more money than Bucky's new vending machine he has to call off his renovations. Confident, Bucky accepts her deal.
Eliza wastes no time starting a protest to save the old vending machine. However, it is becoming clear that everyone is in favor of the new vending machine. People line up to buy all types of snacks the old vending machine could not provide, including nachos. Even Addison and Zeb begin to favour the new vending machine. Eliza stubbornly remains insistent that the old vending machine should be saved, even though it is barely working and on the verge of falling apart. Eliza tries to convince everyone through a song to save the old vending machine, but all it does is encourage everyone to use the new one more.
In one last desperate attempt to save the old vending machine, she works through the night giving it a major overhaul, driven by unhinged determination. By morning, it has been fitted with lots of different machines and components, making it capable of providing more snacks than the new vending machine. Addison cautiously comes forward to test it. She chooses nachos which come out of a microwave oven attached to the machine. She takes a bite and is pleased with the results. But suddenly, the old vending machine begins to buckle under the amount of upgrades. Eliza has no choice but to unplug it. She crawls her way through the machine till she reaches the back to pull the plug. The old vending machine finally collapses to pieces, and this time it is beyond repair. Eliza accepts defeat, though she is upset that she will not be able to repair broken stuff anymore.
Bucky treats himself to a victory snack from his new vending machine, only for it to malfunction. So he has it discarded along with other vending machines. It turns out that in a short period, Bucky has been replacing the new vending machines each time one malfunctioned, brokedown or displeased him. However, none of them are considered totally broken. Bucky orders for another new vending machine, only to be informed they can no longer afford it. That is when Eliza steps in and repairs the recently discarded vending machine. Bucky finally sees there is no need to throw things away as soon as they break down and offers Eliza to help with the renovations. She accepts, but on the condition that none of the upgrades have Bucky's face on them. Bucky agrees to eighty-five per cent, but Eliza does not budge, even if agrees to fifty per cent.
