Raven's Illusions were a trio of illusions in Queen Florence Island in Canada from the Disney animated series, Gargoyles. They were a trio of illusions (and later totems) representing a "gargoyle clan" led by Raven who were created to represent members whose gargoyle clan members were killed by humans.
Background[]
This "clan" was a group of illusions and later totems, created by Raven with his magical powers in Queen Florence Island in Canada when he viewed humans as a threat in his hometown after they killed many local gargoyles, resulting in Raven to show a hatred towards humans. Like Raven, each member is given a gargoyle-like appearance to represent gargoyles whose clans were destroyed by local humans - consisting of a bear, an eagle, and a wolf. Unlike Raven, who leads his "clan", none of them spoke. The reason why Raven created this makeshift clan representing fallen clan members was due to local gargoyles having their clans destroyed by local humans living in the island of Queen Florence. Raven also describes the illusions as gargoyles who were once mighty warriors, and are now crippled with grief. After Goliath left sight, the illusions vanished.
The illusions later appeared in a totem pole-inspired design during the battle against Natsilane where they were tasked to fight against the Manhattan Clan while Natsilane takes on Raven, which he dubs them Totem Beasts. Like their standard forms, the totem beasts consisted of a bear, an eagle, and a wolf each paralleling their standard forms, albeit having a blocky wood appearance representing a totem pole-inspired design.
Role in the series[]
In "Heritage", Raven leads a trio of gargoyles whom Goliath thinks they are friendly to him which all of a sudden, three gargoyles with the characteristics of a bear, an eagle, and a wolf, come out of their hideout which Goliath thinks they are living gargoyles. Raven then describes the "clan" as gargoyles who were once mighty warriors but now crippled with grief, showing that these "gargoyles" Raven is showing them represent members of a clan who was destroyed by local humans. Raven discusses with the Manhattan Clan giving out a plan to search the village while avoiding the humans and as Goliath listens to what Raven is saying, he and Angela follow Bronx to find Elisa Maza in the village while Raven and his fellow gargoyles watch them leave only for the gargoyles to disappear, as they are revealed to be illusions. The illusions later appear when Goliath attacks Grandmother in her thunderbird form only for Goliath to find out that he is being tricked by Raven, unaware that Grandmother is the protector, much to Raven telling him to destroy the "monster", just as Raven's illusions follow alongside their leader, much to Angela noticing Grandmother being surrounded by the illusions attempting to kill her. After Grandmother escapes, Elisa and Bronx try to catch up with her while as Angela tells Raven to continue the search for Elisa, just as Raven allows Angela and Goliath to continue the search which Raven and his followers leave.
When Natsilane came to battle against Raven at the volcano, the latter in his human form casts a magic spell on a group of illusions now in the form of a totem pole, dubbing the three of them as "totem beasts" to attack. The totem beasts - consisting of a bear, an eagle, and a wolf, come to life while Raven tells the illusions to "entertain" his enemies while Raven himself takes on Natsilane. During battle, the wolf gargoyle attempts to attack Angela which she dodges it while the eagle gargoyle takes on her, followed by the bear gargoyle fighting against Goliath in combat. As the bear gargoyle attempts to kill Goliath, he tosses the bear onto a wall of the volcano, smashing it. The eagle gargoyle chases Angela across the volcano only for the eagle to smash itself onto a wall. Soon as Angela tries to escape, Goliath notices the wolf gargoyle attempting to strike her only for Bronx to pounce on it, smashing the wolf gargoyle. All three totem beasts were smashed during battle, followed by Raven being defeated by Natsilane.
