The Razorbacks are a trio of wild pigs who were deleted from Disney's 2016 animated feature film Zootopia.
Background[]
The Razorbacks are an elite police force consisting of wild pigs that was dispatched by a police force whenever a predator situation occurs across Zootopia. They are shown to have high intelligence to sniff out predators if they find one so that they can arrest them to keep the prey population living in the city of Zootopia safe.
Development[]
In an early version of Zootopia where Nick Wilde was to be the main protagonist of the film, the Razorbacks are comprised of wild pigs often serving as minor antagonists of the film. They were nicknamed "sniffers", due to their high intelligence in detecting senses such as the case of Nick doing illegal actions where the Razorbacks attempted to catch him and arrest him[1]. For the final version of the film, the script was rewritten with Judy Hopps being the main protagonist of the film, which resulted in the Razorbacks being cut in the final version of the film.
Trivia[]
- Their name comes from the term "razorback", a term that refers to domestic pigs who have gone in the wild.
- The way they are depicted wearing uniforms reading "T.U.S.K." on each of them gives a hint that they are affiliated with the T.U.S.K. Government Building, a location that was also deleted in the final version of the film.
- A character strongly resembling one of the Razorbacks can be seen in promotional artwork for Zootopia 2.
