"Red Moon Ritual" is a song from the 2022 Disney/Pixar animated feature film Turning Red. It is a chant used during the Red Moon Ritual to seal a Lee family member's panda spirit inside a talisman.
Background[]
During the part where Mei's family members (Ming Lee, Jin Lee, Grandma Wu, and Chen, Ping, Helen, and Lily) prepare for the ritual under a lunar eclipse coinciding with the same night where 4*Town performs on concert at the SkyDome after dinnertime, they ready themselves to sing to Sun Yee to send Mei to a magical realm so she can banish her spirit while Mr. Gao draws a large circle to help Mei get ready to banish her panda spirit. Afterwards, Mei's aunties bang red panda-themed instruments to bring in music just as they, Grandma Wu, Jin, and Ming Lee sing to send Mei to the spirit world so that she gets a chance to banish her spirit. However, the plan was unsuccessful, as Mei decides to attend the 4*Town concert instead. The song is entirely sung in Cantonese Chinese[1] with no onscreen subtitles for translation with the whole verse repeating itself several times with every line having four syllables.
The song plays again during the climax of the film where Ming Lee in her red panda form causes massive damage at the SkyDome where Mei and her aunties sing to send Ming Lee in her panda form into the spirit world while Jin draws a large circle using a line marker to send Ming to the spirit world, followed by Miriam, Priya, Abby, and the 4*Town members singing along in a mashup of the song "Nobody Like U", helping them send Ming to the spirit world. Afterwards, Ming, Grandma Wu, and the rest of Mei's aunties banish their spirits except for Mei who decided to keep hers.

Trivia[]
- Part of the ritual song lyrics were heard in the "Pandas Unite / Nobody Like U (Reprise)" soundtrack where they are heard overlapping with the song "Nobody Like U" using the same lyrics from the standard "Red Moon Ritual" track.
- According to Domee Shi (director of Turning Red) in the audio commentary, the part where Mei's family members sing the ritual song was semi-inspired by Daoist monk chanting, albeit trying to use the sequence for a magical ritual. However, before performing the chant, the actors who voiced their respective characters had to learn the chant and pronounce in Cantonese[2].
