The relationships of Rey from the Star Wars universe.

Family

Rey's Parents

I know all about waiting... for my family. They'll be back. One day.
―Rey in Jakku waiting for her parents to return
Rey's parents

A young Rey with her parents on Jakku.

Rey didn't have a clear memory of her parents. At first, the only thing she remembered was that they left her on Jakku with Unkar Plutt for unknown reasons. During several years of her life working as a scavenger, she kept the childish hope that they would come back for her. But after so many years waiting, she also struggled with the fear that they never would. This caused in her a deep feeling of loneliness and abandonment, that would get worse every time she searched for the truth about them, as she did in the mirror cave, but would find no answers.

The worst of her fears were uncovered by Kylo Ren, who looked into her memories and realized that Rey always knew but repressed from her mind, that her parents were "nobodies" and that they would not come back for her. This shook Rey since she was relying her own identity to the one of her parents, so she felt lost as she would have to find out about who she was without them.

However, discovering later that her father was actually related to Palpatine, which in turn meant that herself was part of the lineage of the evil Emperor, had an even worse effect on her as she became fearful to be dominated by the dark side. On the other hand, after knowing the reasons why her parents left her and how they were murdered by Palpatine, Rey becomes defensive of them. She has the desire to avenge them, and when confronting her grandfather, she tells him that her parents were really brave for trying to hide her from him.

Sheev Palpatine/Darth Sidious

All you want is for me to hate, but I won't. Not even you.
―Rey facing her grandfather on Exegol
Rey vs

Rey stands to confront her grandfather.

Rey saw Palpatine as an enemy from the beginning since he was a threat to everything and everyone she loves. However, after Kylo Ren revealed to her that her father was the son of the Emperor, and that Sidious was the one responsible for murdering her parents, and indirectly for all her misery that she had to endure for most of her life, she is consumed by feelings of revenge and hatred towards him.

Upon learning about her Palpatine lineage, Rey also becomes terrified of what this would mean for her self-identity and future. Rey started to have visions about a dark version of herself, that would be sitted beside Ren on the Throne of Sith and that tormented her trying to make her surrender to the darkness within her. Additionally, some events showed that the dark side dominated her in moments of fury, causing her to lose control and even harm her loved ones, as it happened when she destroyed the ship that she thought Chewie was aboard or when she impaled Kylo.

After almost killing Ben Solo during their duel, Rey decides that the only way to stop herself from becoming like her grandfather is to be isolated from everything so she would not cause anymore damage than she already did. But after Luke's spirit appears before her and tells that he and Leia always knew about her lineage but chose to train her anyway because they sensed the goodness in her heart, she becomes determined to face Palpatine and end everything once for all.

No longer motivated by anger, but by the choice to defend the ones in the Resistance and to put an end to the war, Rey goes to confront Palpatine. Palpatine taunts her, revealing that he was expecting this meeting to happen and that he wanted to use her as a new vessel for his soul in a Sith ritual. Palpatine tries to incite Rey's anger for her to comply to his wishes, and when this doesn't work, he threats her friends. He states that no one would come for her, that his previous defeat was due to Anakin's connection to Luke, but that she had no one but him as family. However, Palpatine didn't know that Ben Solo, who was the other half of the dyad formed by him and Rey, had come to rescue her, and upon sensing his arrival, Rey is motivated to fight again when she was almost accepting to submit to Palpatine. As soon as the Emperor discovers the unique nature of Ben and Rey's connection, he tries to use it to strength himself, weakening them both. But then the Jedi from the past urge Rey to rise again, and they aid her to finish Palpatine, something she accomplishes to do at the cost of her own life.

After being brought back from the dead by Ben's sacrifice out of love for her, Rey decides to adopt the Skywalker surname instead of the Palpatine. She wanted to be part of the Skywalker family to carry on their legacy and memory of everything they did for her, and not define herself by her grandfather's lineage anymore.

Romance

Ben Solo/Kylo Ren

I did want to take your hand... Ben's hand.
―Rey confessing her feelings to Kylo Ren
Rey and Ben kiss

Rey and Ben kissing.

Initially unknown to Rey, she was born forming a dyad in the Force with Ben Solo, being them actually one in the Force but born as two physically separated individuals. Thus, despite not being related by blood, Ben is Rey's other half, making him her "soulmate" or "twin of the Force". As such, they were connected before they even meet. Since Rey was very young, she was used to have strange feelings and daydreams, many of them related to Ben. When he was about to kill the previous leader of the Knights of Ren, Rey feels cold as Ben is falling into darkness. She later is able to recognize him as the figure she saw in her nightmares the first time she sees him in the battlefield on Takodana. Ben also experienced these feelings and visions about Rey as he seems to recognize her as the one that appears in them during their first battle at Starkiller Base when she gets the Skywalker saber from the snow. As a dyad, they were destinated to meet and their bond allows them to understand each other's feelings and to grow stronger together.

Upon meeting for the first time, Kylo and Rey started out as enemies, when she located and rescued BB-8, which led him to hunt her on Takodana. As Kylo finds her, he gives up looking for the droid and kidnaps Rey after sensing something in her. Rey saw Ren only as a masked creature hunting her, so she was surprised when she hears gentleness in his voice and even more after he unmasks revealing a normal face of a young man. While Ren takes his time searching Rey's mind, she suddenly finds herself draw to his mind, which allows her to reveal his weakness and to completely awake her own powers. After Ren killed Han Solo, Rey hated him, seeing him as a murderous monster. Wanting to avenge Han, she dueled and defeated Kylo with his grandfather's lightsaber, scarring his face and leaving him to die.

Eventually, she and Ren discovered they were bonded together through the Force as a result of them being a dyad. While Kylo is immediately fascinated by the bond, Rey initially is irritated and shows her disdain for him. But she also tries to understand him as when she asks why he killed his own father, who had shown only love towards him to the very end. She is surprised when he replies that he did not hate Han, and irritated when Kylo points out her weakness, her attachment to her own parents. Despite this, the two begin to connect on an emotional level. As their connection strengthens, they start to feel empathy towards each other through a shared sentiment of loneliness, and they try to comfort the other through their bond. Through their interactions they also show signs of a growing attraction towards each other. Kylo became very fond of Rey, and at one point she even begins to refer to him as Ben, and he lets her do it.

After leaving the mirror cave without answers about her parents, Rey feels lonely and lost, so she searches for him and tells everything about the event, thinking that he is the one that would understand her feelings. When she finds him inside the hut after the bond connected them again, Rey is relieved to see him, and she becomes tempted to reach to touch his hand, face, and hair. As Kylo assures her that she is not alone, Rey reciprocates by telling him that he is not either. Upon learning the full truth of his fall to the dark side and feeling the conflict within him when they touch hands, Rey makes it her personal mission to redeem him. She also becomes very defensive of him, confronting Luke about the truth of Ben's turn to the dark, and even stating that Ben Solo is their last hope to win the war.

When Rey went to meet him in the Supremacy in an attempt to convince him to turn to the light, Rey is able to sense his anger, confusion, pain, loneliness, longing and sorrow while they are talking in the elevator, and just before leaving to enter the throne room, she realizes that his feelings are not just about himself, but also related to her. Then, Snoke reveals that he had manipulated their bond to lead Rey into a trap and starts to torture her in front of Ren, who becomes infuriated because of his feelings for her. When Snoke orders him to kill Rey, Ren surprised them by killing his own master to save her life. However, even after saving and fighting beside Rey against Snoke's guards, he, despite his genuine affection for her, still chooses the dark side over returning with her to the light after Rey asked him to help her save the Resistance. Instead, Ren offers his hand and tries unsuccessfully to sway her to his side, confessing that despite her origins, she is important to him.

Disappointed after the failed attempt to turn each other, they are both frustrated. Although she briefly hesitates, Rey ends up rejecting his offer, even after hearing his pleas. Upon waking up before him in the throne room following their fight over the Skywalker saber, despite being heartbroken because of his decision to remain in the dark side, Rey also recognizes she acted on impulse because of her strong wish to help him. She realizes that him rejecting his own master wouldn't mean that he would also resist the strong pull the dark side has over him, so she concludes that her mistake was thinking that Kylo Ren's decision was simple. Rey decides not to kill him before escaping the Supremacy, believing that his fate is up to the Force and not to her, and she wants to wait and see what future the Force has planned for him. Later, when the bond connects them again, Rey choses to close the door, showing her disappointment because of his decision.

Following these events, they remained enemies but with a clearly complicated relationship. Rey tells to his mother about Ren's proposal and the failed attempt to turn him to the light, and Leia notices that the girl genuinely cares about her son and that Ben is the reason of Rey's depressed state. As Rey says that she only wished to help him and does not know how she can follow Leia's advice to be rational in this situation, they both conclude that Ben will only turn back to the light on his own, in the case he wants to.

Despite her rejection, Kylo continued to pursue Rey determined to turn her to his side, which irritated Rey. She, at one point, feels the impulse to tell him to kiss a rathtar as he is trying to convince her about the darkness that exists in her. Despite this, upon seeing him through the connection for the first time after a whole year, she is in turmoil because of feelings she does not understand when she hears her own name on his lips after so long. On Pasaana, while Ren is conflicted and fighting his own dark impulses that demand him to kill Rey to get rid of the one who is tempting him towards the light, Rey also feels confused after she took down his TIE whisper and caused it to crash-land, as she doesn't know if she wanted him dead or alive. Upon meeting her on the Steadfast, he finally reveals to Rey about her Palpatine lineage and that they are a dyad in another attempt to convince her to join him. Rey refuses his offer again, although she is tempted to join him because after Snoke's death she, as Kylo, came to believe that they are able to do incredible things together. Rey gets really upset with Kylo for telling her about her Palpatine lineage, but she is simultaneously grateful and in wonder after knowing about their dyad.

During their fight on Kef Bir, Rey states through their bond that nobody really knows her, but Kylo assures her again that he in fact does, even after she denied it. Because of Leia's sacrifice, Rey is brought back from her state of rage in which she was dominated by the dark side, and she realizes that she has no wish to see him dead. Thus, following their duel, Rey heals the wound she inflicted herself on him. As he was fatally injured, she has to give a lot of her own life energy in order to save him, but she is willing to die for him if she needs to. She then confesses to him that she was indeed willing to join him as Ben Solo, which confirmed her romantic feelings but that she would never be with him as long as he was in the dark side. Almost killing him during this duel is what makes Rey decide to isolate herself on Ahch-To, wishing not to fight him ever again. But while Rey fears she is endangering her loved ones and becoming like her grandfather, Luke's Force spirit reassures Rey that despite of what she did, she also saved Ren's life which shows that she has a good heart.

Right after, Rey was proven correct that he could be redeemed, as Ren renounced the dark side thinking about the wish of his loved ones (his parents and Rey) that wanted him to come back to the light side. Now moved only by his desire to save Rey, Ben followed her to Exegol to help her. Sensing how Ben Solo had changed and that he came to her aid during the battle against her grandfather, Rey becomes very emotional and close to tears. She and Ben feel that their connection is right and it finally feels like coming home. Rey realizes that this is how the bond was always supposed to be, but Snoke and Palpatine had took that from them when Ben was corrupted to fall to the dark. Inspired by Ben and their connection, Rey becomes determined to fight Palpatine and not to submit to his wishes.

Rey becomes horrified upon witnessing her grandfather throwing Ben in a pit. She feels the impulse to scream, but she is so weakened after Palpatine stole the energy of their dyad that she is barely able to react. When Ben falls in the pit, Rey becomes unable to sense him, which makes her feel carved out and broken. She attempts to reach for him through their bond shortly after, but as she has no response, she concludes that the connection must also have been weakened by Sidious' Force drain. She cries of frustration while watching the Emperor using an impressive amount of power for evil, as she knows that all that power belongs to herself and Ben. After she managed to destroy her grandfather, Rey's last action before dying is to try to reach for Ben again, but she succumbs to her injuries and falls on the ground before she is able to.

Though he was gravely injured by the Emperor, Ben survived the fall in the pit and found Rey's lifeless body as the result of her confrontation against Sidious. Unable to accept her death, Ben decides to give her the rest of his own life energy to revive her. As Rey wakes up in his arms, she covers his hand with her own, finally accepting it. She also surprises him by smiling and showing she is happy to see him, something he was not expecting after being rejected by her several times. They gaze and smile fondly at each other before finally giving in to their romantic feelings, sharing a passionate kiss. Shortly after, while Ben is still in her arms, he succumbs to his wounds and vanishes into the Force. Despite him having no regrets in giving his whole self to her and helping to bring Rey back to the galaxy, Rey is heavily distressed by his disappearance and upon realizing he had sacrificed himself for her. She cries feeling that half of her soul was ripped from her, which in fact it was. She mourns that she missed the chance to know and be with Ben. She is also heartbroken that she was unaware to be part of a connection all along, which is what she wanted her whole life after so many years alone on Jakku, and it was taken from her. But then when she hears his voice through the Force assuring her that he'll be always with her, she is comforted in realizing that in some way he is not actually gone, and that they would always be together.

On Tatooine, after burying both the Skywalkers sabers, she thinks about the ones that became her family and without them she would never have survived the Emperor, and she thinks of Ben (the one who sacrificed everything out of love for her) a few moments after taking the surname of his family as her own.

Rey and BB-8 on Jakku.

Rey first meets BB-8 on Jakku when she rescues him from Teedo, who captured the droid to obtain his parts. She frees BB-8 from Teedo's net and helps to fix the droid's bend antenna. After saving BB-8, Rey was initially very reluctant to let the droid go with her and continue to help him, as she was not used to having friends on Jakku where everyone fights on their own to survive. However, despite being very tempted by the chance to gain more food which would considerably improve the conditions of her miserable life on Jakku, Rey ultimately changes her mind and decides to refuse to sell BB-8 to Unkar Plutt. She then protected BB-8 from Plutt's thugs that came to capture the droid. When Rey learned that BB-8 is from the Resistance and contains the map to Luke Skywalker, she does everything to protect and keep BB-8 safe from the First Order. Over the course of their adventure, Rey and BB-8 develop a friendship where the two become concerned for each other's well-being. During the battle of Takodana, Rey prevented BB-8 from being captured and was instead captured herself. After Starkiller Base's destruction and Rey's rescue, BB-8 and Rey were reunited before she went off to find Luke Skywalker. The two of them eventually reunite again after she successfully rescued the Resistance from the First Order during the Battle of Crait. During their reunion inside the Millennium Falcon, Rey greets BB-8 with a smile and touches his antenna, saying that it looks good.

A year later, Rey maintained a strong friendship with BB-8 who would observe her during the long periods isolated in the forest while training to become a Jedi. When Rey accidentally caused a tree to land on BB-8 due to having a Force vision, she immediately tended to BB-8 and apologized to him. After it was discovered that the deceased Emperor Palpatine had returned, BB-8 was willingly to help Rey find a Sith wayfinder that would take the Resistance to Palpatine's location, Exegol, where Rey allowed her friend to come along. While fleeing from the First Order on Pasaana, Rey was impressed with BB-8's quick-thinking to evade stormtroopers where she proudly stated "Never underestimate a droid!" On Kef Bir, when Rey decided to go retrieve the wayfinder herself, BB-8 was worried for Rey's safety and well-being.

After the Resistance's victory in the Battle of Exegol, BB-8 was the first to see Rey and the two happily reunited with each other. Later, Rey was accompanied by BB-8 as she went to Tatooine to bury the Skywalker's and Leia's lightsabers. After Rey took on the Skywalker surname, she and BB-8 watched Tatooine's binary sunset together.

Finn

Rey and Finn

Rey and her best friend Finn.

Rey first met Finn on the planet Jakku, after he rescued Poe Dameron from the First Order, and after the pilot had apparently died in his rescue attempt. Their relationship at first got off on the wrong foot, when Rey believed he had stole BB-8's master's jacket, only for him correct them with what actually happened. She assumed he was a member of the Resistance and he did not reveal that he was actually a former member of the First Order, as he was ashamed that he had been associated with them.

Over time, the two become good friends, when Finn finally revealed his true identity as a Stormtrooper to Rey, and she was not angry with him for lying to her or about who he really was. After she was captured by Kylo Ren, he goes to Starkiller Base to rescue her, despite the fact that he did not know Rey for very long. When Finn was seriously injured by Ren, Rey tries to defend him and manages to defeat Ren due to the dark warrior being previously injured by Chewbacca, being emotionally unstable because of Han's death and not willing to kill Rey.

Han Solo

Han Solo and Rey

Rey and Han Solo.

Rey first met Han, after she and Finn barely escaped from the First Order's military forces on the planet Jakku. She was amazed to learn that who he really was, that he fought with the Rebel Alliance in Galactic Civil War and is Luke Skywalker's old friend. Over time, Rey came to see Han as a mentor and father-figure and the two become good friends. When Han was killed by Kylo Ren, she was utterly devastated and called Ren a monster. Enraged by Han's death, Rey tries to kill Ren, but the two are separated due to the planet collapsing. After this, Rey mourns and grieves over Han's death.

Following the battle at Starkiller Base, Rey also shares the pain of Han's loss with his wife, Leia. The two of them share a hug upon meeting on the Resistance Base and later Leia asks Rey to tell about the event. Rey is really sad and cries while explaining what happened to Leia, she even compares the pain she is feeling with Han's death to the one of being abandoned by her parents on Jakku. Rey tells that Han didn't retreat or asked for their help, and states that she believes that he should have run instead of facing Kylo Ren alone. But Leia tells Rey that Han always knew the moment to run and the moment to stay, and he wouldn't give up when trying to reach for their son, Ben Solo.

Afterwards, while she is on Ahch-To arguing with Kylo through their bond, she asks him in tears the reason why he decided to kill his father, not understanding why he would murder a parent that clearly loved him.

Luke Skywalker

I thought they were in danger, I was trying to do something!"
"And that's what the Resistance needs, not some old failed husk of a religion. Do you understand now?"
"I understand that across the galaxy our real friends are really dying! That old legend of Luke Skywalker that you hate so much, I believed in it.
―Rey and Luke during the third lesson
Last-jedi-rey-luke-skywalker-ahch-to

Rey being taught by Luke Skywalker.

Before Rey officially met Luke, she had heard a lot about the Jedi Master and developed great respect for him. But she believed him to only be a myth and legend until she met Finn who told her that BB-8 had a map to Luke's location. Because she saw the map that BB-8 had, Rey is captured by Luke's nephew Kylo Ren, who tries to probe her mind for the map to Luke's location, but Rey is able to resist and turn the probe against him.

Rey goes to Ahch-To, where she meets the elderly Luke and presents him with his father's lightsaber, and is surprised when he rejects it throwing the lightsaber over his shoulder, hinting about his belief that the Jedi should end with him. Thus, Luke at first refused to train Rey in the ways of the Force for her to become a Jedi. This disappoints Rey, who had an idealistic view on the Jedi and Luke after hearing stories about them. However, After hearing R2-D2's old message of Leia, Luke chose to give Rey some lessons about the Force and why he thinks the Jedi should end. During the first lesson, Luke shows Rey that the Force is part of all living creatures and tells that the Jedi were arrogant for thinking that the Force belonged to them. However, he soon comes to fear her power when he notices her affinity with the dark side because it reminds him of the powers of his nephew, Ben Solo.

During the second lesson, when Luke tells Rey that the legacy of the Jedi is a failure because they trained his father, Anakin, who was eventually seduced by the dark side and wiped out the Jedi Order, Rey argues that it was also a Jedi (Luke) who saw the good in Vader, believing there was still good in him, which eventually brought him back to the light. After Luke revealed to Rey his own version of how his nephew fell to the dark side and told that he feels guilty for acting as the legendary Jedi Master that the galaxy believes, Rey reveals to the Luke that she is not looking for a legend, but for someone who can guide her as she is feeling lost with her parents absence and not knowing her own identity, besides her recently discovered powers.

In the third lesson, when Rey finds out that Luke lied to her about the supposed tribe from the neighboring island that was raiding and pludering the caretakers village, Rey becomes really frustrated with him. Luke explains that the Resistance needs someone like Rey who will immediately act to protect the others, and not someone who failed for being attached to old believes that prevented one to act on their own feelings unless balance could be maintained. Upset for being tricked, Rey tells him she is truly disappointed that Luke is not doing anything to save their friends who are dying in the war, and that she once genuinely believed in the legend of Luke Skywalker, but now she thinks she was wrong about him.

Not finding the solace she wanted in Luke's lessons, Rey eventually finds it in his nephew, Kylo Ren. Because of a Force-bond Rey and Ren share, they were able to talk, see, and even touch through the Force, and they become closer to each other. Rey confides in the Dark Jedi her pain and loneliness, and is comforted by him. Upon learning Rey and Ren had been communicating behind his back, Luke becomes furious with her, blowing the hut they are into pieces. In turn, Rey attacks him out of disgust upon discovering Luke's attempt to murder Ben when he was his apprentice. Rey states that Luke's mistake was to think that Ben had already chosen his path when he sensed the darkness within him, and that she sensed how conflicted he still is. Luke admits what he did but refuses to consider Ren could be redeemed because of the darkness inside him. Rey offers the Skywalker lightsaber to Luke again so he would help fighting beside the Resistance, but when he refuses, Rey decides to bet the chance of victory in the war on Ben instead of Luke, as she leaves him stating that Ben Solo is the last hope.

Determined to prove Luke wrong, she goes to meet Kylo Ren to convince him to turn to the light. For a brief moment, when Ren kills his own master to save her life and they fight the Praetorian Guards together, she thinks she succeeded, but she is heartbroken upon realizing that, despite of his genuine affection for her, he still wouldn't leave the dark side and come with her. This outcome in a way only ends validating Luke's words, so Rey recognizes she acted on impulse because of her eagerness to help Ben Solo and that Kylo's choice was not simple as she previously thought. Rey realizes that Kylo rejecting his own master didn't mean he would resist the strong pull the dark side has over him, which is what Luke had tried to warn her about.

Ultimately, Luke comes to respect and value Rey, as he acknowledged her as the "last Jedi" and dies peacefully, having ignited the revival of the Jedi Order via Rey. When Rey sensed Luke's death through the Force, she was sad, but at the same time she knew that Luke found peace before his passing.

Rey later discovered that she was related to Emperor Palpatine, and after her duel with Kylo on the ruins of the second Death Star, she decided to live out in exile on Ahch-To like Luke. Scared to be dominated by the dark side and terrified that her rage led her to gravely injure Kylo, Rey feared her own actions and was ashamed to be related to a complete monster, so she chooses to isolate herself. However, she was approached by Luke's Force spirit who appeared to stop her from making the same mistake he made during his final years.

Rey tells Luke about her visions of the Throne of the Sith and the incident on the ruins of the second Death Star, confessing that she is scared of herself. Rey states that after almost killing Ben, she was willing to give all her life force and die if it was needed to heal him and save his life. Luke attempts to comfort Rey by telling that her kindness and compassion saved Ben, despite her almost killing his nephew. Rey is then surprised to hear from Luke that he had always known of her lineage as a Palpatine, as did Leia. She was consoled by Luke who told her that her bloodline did not define the type of person she was and that Leia trained her as a Jedi because of her spirit and heart. Rey was encouraged by Luke to face her grandfather and was given Leia's lightsaber and Luke's old X-Wing to go confront him as the two of them exchanged smiles.

After the defeat of the First Order and the death of Palpatine, Rey was proudly watched by Luke and Leia as she adopted the "Skywalker" name in order to continue their family legacy.

Poe Dameron

Rey first meets Poe after helping the Resistance escape in the aftermath of the Battle of Crait. Because Rey befriended and protected Poe's droid, BB-8 from the First Order, Poe respected Rey. The two argue with each other a lot when she accidentally damages BB-8 during her training and also because he damaged the Falcon, but eventually they become friends.

Leia Organa

Rey and her master Leia.

Rey first met Leia after the destruction of Starkiller Base. Rey, knowing of Leia's love for Han Solo, and Leia, sensing Rey's fondness for her husband, embraced each other as they mourned over Han's death. When the map to Luke Skywalker was completed, Rey was entrusted by Leia to find and convince her brother to join the Resistance in their fight against the First Order.

However, before Rey left to Ahch-To, Leia asked her to tell about Ben and Han's death and two of them have a moment in which they share the pain over the loss. Rey cries while telling Leia that Han faced Kylo alone and did not try to fight or ask for help. Leia tries to comfort Rey by telling that Han always knew the moment to run and the moment to stay, and he wouldn't give up when trying to reach for their son, Ben Solo. When Rey asks about what would stop Leia from running when everything seems hopeless, Leia states that she is not fighting alone and Rey, being now part of something bigger, is also not alone either.

Following the Battle of Crait, Rey and Leia sensed Luke's death through the Force and mourned for him together. As Rey worried on how they would continue the war against the First Order, she was assured by Leia that they had everything they needed to continue the war.

Sometime later, Rey and Leia bonded discussing their grief about their losses during the war, and Leia assumes that Rey seems to be sad because of her mentor's demise until the girl mentions her son. Rey asks Leia if she could tell her more about Ben's fall to the dark side, explaining that she wants to understand him. Rey also tells Leia how she wishes to help Ben, but when Kylo Ren asked her to join him on the Supremacy, she was disappointed as she realized that he just wanted her to be like him. Upon noticing that Rey is heartbroken because of her son, Leia concludes that the girl cares for him and tries to comfort her. Leia shows admiration for Rey's hope to turn Ben and save him, but she explains that only her son can save himself and she is not sure if that is something Ben Solo wants, so she advises Rey to be rational. When Rey replies that she does not know how to do it, Leia reassures her that she won't be alone.

Rey would continue her Jedi training under Leia's tutelage, making their relationship more like a mother-daughter relationship. Before Rey went on a mission to find a Sith Wayfinder in order to get to the planet Exegol, Rey shared one last embrace with Leia, who assured her to not be afraid of who she truly was. During her duel with Kylo Ren on Kef Bir, Rey sensed and was devastated over Leia's death, which allows her to let go of the rage and realize what she did to Kylo, so she heals the wound that herself inflicted on him. When meeting with Luke's Force spirit on Ahch-To, Rey was surprised to hear from Luke that not only he, but also Leia, had known of Rey's lineage as a Palpatine. Rey was assured by Luke that Leia trained her because of what her grandfather lacked: a spirit and a heart.

After the defeat of the First Order and the death of Palpatine, Rey was proudly watched by Leia and Luke as she adopted the "Skywalker" name in order to continue their family legacy.

Enemies

Snoke

You underestimate Skywalker and Ben Solo and me. It will be your downfall.
―Rey to Supreme Leader Snoke on the Supremacy
Snoke and Rey 2

Rey confronts Supreme Leader Snoke.

As soon as Rey became the apprentice of Luke Skywalker, she became a target to the Supreme Leader of the First Order that was trying to eliminate any potential threat of a new Jedi Order. Knowing that his own apprentice was emotionally unstable as a consequence of his trauma caused by his father's death, he discovers and tries to manipulate the Force bond connection between Kylo and Rey, trying to lure Rey into a trap. This plan seems to work as Kylo allows Rey to approach him, she develops feelings of compassion and affection towards him, and starts to believe that he can be turned back to the light. This leads her to go alone meet Kylo in the Supremacy and be brought in front of Snoke himself. Snoke then taunts and tortures Rey to extract all information she has about Luke Skywalker. Then, when he is done with her, he orders Kylo to kill her. However, Snoke's mistake was underestimating both the strong growing feelings that his apprentice had for Rey and all the disgust and disbelief that he started to feel about his master since Han Solo's death. Thus, he is surprised when Kylo ingnites the lightsaber killing him instead of Rey.
