Rhindon is a sword featured in the Chronicles of Narnia film series, first introduced in the 2005 Disney/Walden Media adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Background[]

Rhindon is a sword given to Peter Pevensie by Father Christmas before the end of the Long Winter in Narnia, along with a shield. It is an arming sword depicting a pommel in the shape of a golden lion head with a red hand grip divided by a gold ring. The blade itself is shown to have a silver coloration with golden words written on both sides.

The text written on both sides of the sword are as follows:

(side 1)
When Aslan bares his teeth, winter meets its death.

(side 2)
When he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.

Appearances[]

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe[]

Rhindon was one of the gifts given to Peter Pevensie by Father Christmas (along with a shield) during their time at Narnia just before the latter departs during the end of winter. Peter later uses it during his first duel against Maugrim at Aslan's Camp where he was able to slay the wolf during a battle. Later during the battle of Beruna, Peter uses this sword to command the Narnians of Aslan's Army to charge against Jadis and her Army in a violent battle. Furthermore, after Edmund was injured while trying to fight off Jadis, Peter uses his sword to confront Jadis after killing a minotaur nearby, resulting in a duel between him and the White Witch. However, Jadis dislodges Peter's sword during a duel and almost kills him, just before Aslan arrived and tackles Jadis, killing her and ending her rule forever.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian[]

Many Narnian years later, Rhindon was placed in the Treasure Room at the ruins of Cair Paravel during the Telmarine dynasty. Since the Pevensies returned to Narnia, they entered the Treasure Room and were able to find their gifts placed in storage within the room - one of them being Rhindon. Peter was the last one to be able to retrieve it and used it during the battle against the Telmarine army. He later used it during a duel against Miraz at Aslan's How, which he was able to weaken the Telmarine king. Furthermore after Miraz was killed and then the Telmarine army surrendered to the Narnians, Peter handed the sword to Caspian to acknowledge his rightful place as king of the Telmarine Castle.
