The rhinoceros is a clueless/extremely mad nemesis to Goofy in the 1945 animated short, African Diary.

Role in the Short[]

After run-ins with various animals while camping for the night and taking his morning plunge (ruined by a hippopotamus that takes all the water with him when exiting the pool), Goofy sets off in search of the black rhinoceros. Unfortunately for Goofy, the rhinoceros is prepared to encounter him, thanks to a Titbird resting on his horn, and its eyes blaze red and charges after him. Goofy tries his shot against the rhino, but the animal is too much for Goofy, even after it was briefly stunned after Goofy fired his rifle when it was stuck on its horn. He and his crew evidently leaves Africa, fleeing from the rhinoceros, so other hunters can shoot it, with the rhino and his bird friend happily waving them goodbye.

Trivia[]

  • The scene from African Diary where the rhinoceros chased Goofy (with the addition of the latter's signature holler) was included in the original version of the Disney Classics Theater show of The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney's MGM Studios, being replaced in an update in 1992 by a scene from Aladdin.
