Richard Stephen Dreyfuss is an American actor who is best known for starring in a number of film, television and theater roles since the late 1960s. He is also known for his roles in Steven Spielberg's movies Jaws , as the character Matt Hooper, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind , as the character of Roy Neary, that premiered in the 1970s.

For Disney, he voiced Centipede in the 1996 live-action/stop-motion film, James and the Giant Peach, and portrayed Dr. Leo Martin in the 1991 Touchstone Pictures film What About Bob?, Fagin in Disney's 1997 movie Oliver Twist, and Professor James Krippendorf in the 1998 Touchstone Pictures film, Krippendorf's Tribe. He also played Detective Chris Lecce in Stakeout and Another Stakeout and Glenn Holland in Mr. Holland's Opus. He played Bernie Madoff in the ABC TV miniseries Madoff. His role as Dr. Matt Hooper from Jaws was spoofed by Aladdin in the Aladdin episode; "Egg-stra Protection" while Genie spoofed the shark.
