George Richard Haydon was an English comedic actor, who, for Disney, voiced the Caterpillar in Disney's 1951 animated feature film Alice in Wonderland and appeared as Quentin Bartlett in The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin.
Haydn was born on March 10, 1905 in Camberwell. After working as a music hall entertainer and overseer of a Jamaican banana plantation, he joined a touring British theatre troupe, and then moved into television and film.
His film credits included Charley's American Aunt, Ball of Fire, No Time for Love, And Then There Were None, The Green Years, The Emperor Waltz, The Merry Widow, Never Let Me Go, Jupiter's Darling, The Toy Tiger, The Lost World, Please Don't Eat the Daisies, Five Weeks in a Ballroom, Mutiny on the Bounty, The Sound of Music, and Young Frankenstein. He also appeared in television shows, like The Twilight Zone, Shirley Temple's Storybook, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Bewitched, Bonanza, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Love, American Style.
Haydn also had a brief spell as a film director starting in the late 1940s with the films: Miss Tatlock's Millions, Dear Wife, and Mr. Music. He appeared in these films under different pseudonyms.
Haydn died on April 25, 1985 following a heart attack at his home in California. His body was donated to the University of California, Los Angeles.
