Ricky Plesuski is a character featured in the 2001 Disney/Pixar animated feature film Monsters, Inc.
Background[]
Personality[]
Proud of his mouth, Ricky is comfortable with a large amount of white teeth. His three-eyed assistant gives him a thorough brush every morning using his toothbrush to brush his teeth (including those he finds difficult to clean), which take a lot of scrubbing for him to do (which the plaque does not stick on his teeth for long.[1]
Physical appearance[]
Ricky is a diminutive-sized lime green monster with a large green head and big mouth resembling that of a reptilian such as a crocodile or mosasaur placed on his eight short arthropod-like legs. He has a pair of two round long eyes, a long pink tongue, and a set of sharp teeth that he uses as his profession.
Appearances[]
Monsters, Inc.[]
Although seen in a commercial for Monsters, Inc., Ricky does not appear physically until the part where Sulley and Mike enter the company's building. As they enter, Ricky is the first monster who greets Sulley as he walks facing left on his way to the Scare Floor. Later, Ricky and the other Scarers are seen entering the Scare Floor. As Ricky stops, his assistant cleans his teeth using a toothbrush just before Jerry commands the Scarers to do their scaring routine. As the work routine begins, Ricky follows alongside Sulley and the other Scarers in a competition to see who is the Top Scarer throughout the montage. After a hard work, Ricky was ranked in ninth place just before all the Scarers leave.
Ricky is also briefly seen walking in the background when Sulley and Mike approach Randall who is looking for Boo wandering around the company. Just as Celia tricks Randall into making him the top Scarer, Ricky and the other Scarers surround Randall in "congratulating" him (which he actually did not become), thanks to Celia's plans to stop him. Later, Ricky is seen amongst the other Scarers outside Monsters, Inc. who notice Waternoose's arrest. Later, Ricky and the other employees of Monsters, Inc. adjust to the conversion of scare energy to laugh energy.
Monsters University[]
A young Ricky also appears as a background character in Monsters University with a non-speaking cameo seen in the institution itself in one scene. Ricky's Scare Card also appears during the end credits of the film. It is said that he majored his actions in Fear Tech in going under the bed and minored canine imitation and that he used to work Fear Co. and Scream Industries for about three and two years respectively before working at Monsters, Inc.
Disney Parks[]
Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek[]
Ricky also appears in the Tokyo Disneyland attraction, where he appears in the Harryhausen's scene in animatronic form hiding under one of the restaurant tables. When a guest points their flashlight on a helmet placed on a restaurant table, Ricky appears wearing a helmet on his head, which the guest can point their flashlight towards his helmet to earn points for finding him.
Trivia[]
- According to the Scarer Cards bonus feature in Disc 2 of the 2002 home video releases of Monsters, Inc., Ricky's was originally born with straight teeth before a talented orthodontist made them crooked.
- Despite his small amount of screen time, Ricky occasionally appears in merchandise inspired by the Monsters, Inc. franchise, such as appearing as a grabber plush toy released in the Disney On Ice program of Monsters, Inc. as a means to promote the show when it was running or one of the limited edition collectible pins which was released to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Monsters, Inc.
- A character using the same body as Ricky named "Rufus Remerez" was also featured as a Scare Card. Unlike Ricky, Rufus has a pale red coloration around his body and a big spike located on the back of his head.
