Riddle Rosehearts is a stern and almost maniacally lawful student. He reveres a strict adherence to rules. Despite being younger than his dormmates, his position as house warden, as well as his wealthy background, makes him feel superior to others. Whenever someone acts out of line (at least by his standards), he acts viciously and accordingly by subjecting those to a severe punishment. Riddle is implied to have been conditioned to this way of thinking because of his upbringing, as he does wish to be act more off the beaten path. He slowly learns to become more forgiving of others and himself, though he still maintains a staunch attitude.
Physical appearance[]
Riddle Rosehearts is a 17-year-old boy with short straight red hair and grey-blue eyes. His usual dorm attire is a white coat and pants with red cuffs, and a red and black heart-themed lapel. He wears long black stiletto boots with gold high heels on them, as well as matching black gloves. He tops it off with a red and black cape that goes over his shoulder, a couple of patches to represent his Heartslabyul house, and a small gold crown on his head.
His usual student attire is a black dress suit with red vest, and black and red shoes. Additionally, he always seems to wear red eyeshadow.
Powers and abilities[]
Riddle Rosehearts, like the other students at Night Raven College, possesses magical abilities along with a "signature spell":
Pyrokinesis: Riddle can summon fire and create large blasts. This is his most basic, but most powerful offensive spell.
Off with Your Head (formerly): Riddle creates a powerful padlock around people's necks which effectively shuts off that person's magic, until he himself removes it.
His name is a pun in both English and Japanese. His name if a riff on "Liddell" (a nod to the Alice in Wonderland protagonist Alice Liddell) and "riddle" (as the characters from said story tend to speak in riddles). His last name is simply a combination of the words "rose" and "hearts".
Early in development, Riddle was going to be the opposite of what he eventually became, cocky, arrogant, and lazy.
Riddle explains that there are 810 rules to follow in Heartslabyul. This is because in Japanese 810 is pronounced "hah-toh" (ハート) which sounds like "heart".
