Roger Charles Carmel was an American actor and voice actor. His Disney roles included the Sultan in the DuckTales episode "Master of the Djinni", Sir Tuxford and Charm Teacher in the second season of Disney's Adventures of the Gummi Bears, and McClure in the two-part Wonderful World of Disney episode "My Dog, the Thief". He also voiced a town crier in Disney's Adventures of the Gummi Bears, who read announcements, where Carmel used an impersonation of famous newsman Walter Cronkite.
Born in New York City, Carmel originated several roles for Broadway shows, such as The Power and the Glory, Caligula, Once There Was a Russian, Purlie Victorious, and The Irregular Verb to Love. He also appeared in A Man for All Seasons, Auntie Mame, and Half a Sixpence.
Primarily working in television, Carmel's most famous as the lovable con man, Harry Mudd, in the original Star Trek television series. He made guest appearances in The Mothers-in-Law, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Batman, The Patty Duke Show, I Spy, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Munsters, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea; Hawaii Five-O, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, All in the Family, B.J. and the Bear, Three's Company, Laverne & Shirley, Hart to Hart, and Diff'rent Strokes.
A frequent voice actor, he also voiced Smokey Bear in fire safety advertisements and Decepticon deputy leader Cyclonus in Transformers as well as in 1986's The Transformers: The Movie. He also worked on The Berenstain Bears and The New Adventures of Jonny Quest.
Carmel was found dead in his Hollywood apartment on November 11, 1986.
