Rosas Castle is a castle in Disney's 2023 animated feature film Wish. Located in the kingdom of Rosas, it is the home of Queen Amaya and King Magnifico, who now lives trapped inside his Magic Staff while imprisoned in the castle's dungeon.
Background[]
As the place where the citizens of Rosas' wishes are housed, the castle was built by King Magnifico to be the center of his prosperous and peaceful kingdom, where he was loved and admired by everyone. However, as time passed, Magnifico became corrupted by his own power and started to hoard the wishes of his people, granting only those that suited his interests (which were very few). He also became obsessed with finding and eliminating anyone who dared to use magic other than him, especially a young girl named Asha, who had a natural gift for wish-making. However, she later discovered that the castle was filled with secrets and riddles, including a hidden science lab that revealed the source of his magic.
In the film, the castle plays a significant role and serves as the main setting for most of the film's events. It is from here that King Magnifico grants wishes to the citizens of Rosas. The castle is also the setting for many of the film's key scenes, including the climactic battle between King Magnifico and the film's protagonists. Its architecture is a blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles, reflecting the historical influences of the Iberian Peninsula. The castle is known for its tall towers, intricate stonework and expansive courtyards.
Places of interest[]
The Throne Room: This is where King Magnifico holds his wish-granting ceremonies and receives visitors. It is decorated with banners, statues and paintings of the royal family. The throne room also has a secret passage that leads to the king's private chambers, where he keeps his most precious possessions.
The Wish Chamber: This is a hidden chamber where all the wishes of the people of Rosas are kept. The vault is protected by a magical door that can only be opened by the king.
The Royal Library: This is a large room filled with books, scrolls and maps. The library contains the history and secrets of Rosas, as well as many other topics. It is also where Asha finds a clue that leads her to discover the truth about King Magnifico and his wishes.
The Royal Gardens: These are the beautiful gardens that surround the castle. They have many flowers, trees and fountains. The gardens are a favorite place for the citizens of Rosas to relax and enjoy nature. They also have a hidden entrance to the wishing vault that Asha uses to sneak into the castle.
The Dungeon: Although not shown, it’s stated that the castle is equipped with a dungeon for troublemakers to the kingdom. After his defeat and being sealed in the mirror topping of his now destroyed magic staff, King Magnifico is taken to the dungeon to face retribution for his crimes where the mirror is to be hung on a wall. According to Magnifico, the dungeon has a serious odor problem. The dungeon’s interior was originally planned on being shown.
