"Rotten Banana" is the second segment of the thirty-eighth episode of the Disney Channel animated series Kiff.
Synopsis[]
Kiff meets a bad banana.
Plot[]
While having lunch at school one day, Kiff stops Barryfrom throwing a rotten banana in the garbage. The banana, which is also named Banana, is then revealed to be alive, and she pledges her everlasting allegiance to Kiff for saving her from being thrown away. Kiff has a fun day around Table Town with Banana and later brings her back home. That night, while Kiff sleeps, Banana smiles ominously at her.
The following day, Kiff needs to staple some papers together for a project in Miss Deer Teacher's class, but the stapler is being used by Candle. Banana proceeds to grab Candle and demand the stapler from her. Kiff makes Banana stop and apologizes on her behalf, explaining that Banana is still getting used to being alive. Banana then promises to refrain from any more violent behavior. However, when Kiff is tasked with drawing her best friend on the front page of her project, Banana scowls jealously when Kiff draws a picture of Barry.
That night, the Chatterleys are joined at home for dinner by Barry and Banana, despite Martin being unnerved by the latter's presence. Banana interrupts Barry when he tries to talk, and later discreetly switches his chair with a box of sporks, though Beryl manages to stop Barry from sitting on the sporks. The next day in class, the students form pairs for a science project on pond slime. Banana spills slime on Kiff's hands, and while Kiff steps away to wash her hands, Banana whispers something in Candle's ear that greatly disturbs Candle. A terrified Candle pleads with Barry to partner with her, insisting that Kiff is fine with him partnering with somebody else. Although failing to notice that Candle is speaking to him under duress, Barry agrees.
With Barry and Candle now lab partners, Banana offers to be Kiff's partner instead. Candle confides to Barry that Banana earlier said that she has Roy held "in a basement somewhere", but Barry, seeing Kiff and Banana having fun together, is too distracted to pay Candle's comment any attention. Barry goes to talk to Kiff, but Banana tells him that Kiff is busy and turns him away. Alone in the playground after school, Barry, suspicious of Banana, decides to do something about the situation. He visits the Chatterley home and asks Beryl and Martin if he can speak with Kiff alone, only to be told that Banana told them that Kiff was with him. Using the LocateMyKid web app, Beryl, Martin, and Barry find out that Kiff is currently at the Table Town Compost Heap, which is located away from the mainland on its own island. Barry shares his suspicion that Banana is evil, and Martin admits he has been suspecting the same the entire time. The three work together to come up with a plan to save Kiff from Banana.
Meanwhile, Banana leads Kiff through the compost heap, having tricked her into thinking that Beryl and Martin want to meet her there. After taking and hiding Kiff's phone to ensure she cannot call for help, Banana admits to bringing Kiff to the island so that they can live together there forever, where nobody can get between them. Suddenly, Kiff starts slowly sinking into the mud beneath her. Now aware of Banana's true intentions, Kiff tells Banana that she wants to go home, but Banana instead recites an incantation and begins levitating, while vines and garbage rise from the ground and restrain Kiff's limbs, preventing her from escaping. Remembering Banana's initial pledge to her, Kiff commands Banana to release her. Banana then stops the spell, only to mockingly reveal that Kiff has no actual dominion over her, then resume the spell's effects. As Kiff resigns herself to her fate, she hears the sound of a lawn mower in the distance and smiles. Barry, Beryl, and Martin arrive on the scene riding a tractor mower, which they use to cut through the vines. Just as they are about to run Banana over with the mower, she begs for mercy and agrees to be taken back to Helen, to the confusion of the Chatterleys and Barry.
Kiff, Barry, Beryl, and Martin visit Helen at her apartment and present her with Banana, to Helen's joy. Helen explains that Banana is part of her collection of bad fruits, and that Banana must have sneaked into her purse and escaped while Helen was in the cafeteria at the beginning of the episode, then traded places with the normal banana on Barry's lunch tray, which she has been talking to for the past two days as a result. Banana asks to say one last thing to Kiff before being put back inside Helen's cage of bad fruits, but Barry refuses her request and swats her into the cage. On the way out of Helen's apartment building, Barry takes a bite from his normal banana "just in case", and Kiff hugs him.
In the cage, the other bad fruits playfully mock Banana for failing to escape the cage permanently like she said she would. Banana joins their card game and admits that she missed them while she was away.
