Rourke's mercenaries are the supporting antagonists in Atlantis: The Lost Empire. They serve both Lyle Tiberius Rourke & Helga Sinclair. These mercenaries can be seen throughout the film during large group interactions and major events, such as the group's arrival in Atlantis, the confrontation Rourke has with Milo after the swim with Kida, and during the confrontation with Atlantis's king, Kashekim Nedakh.

Appearance[]

Rourke's mercenaries are always shown wearing gas masks, with breathing tubes and blue lenses. This sets them apart from every other soldier and major character within the film. The masks are never removed, allowing them to appear impersonal and more intimidating visually.

The wear brown buckled combat boots, with a tan buckle like lace on the boots, dark green combat fatigues or pants, a light green trench coat, and a red logo on to identify soldiers. Brown webbing with a bag, (Most likely for holding ammo or the gas masks.) and brown leather gloves. Some variants are seen with a holster, while others do not. The head of the soldiers has a Brodie styled helmet, with a cover on it, and a flashlight mounted on the right hand side of the helmet.

Weapons[]

Rifles[]

By the setting of the Atlantis: The Lost Empire, being 1914, the standard soldier of this time were armed with bolt-action rifles( Determines the nation, as the Russian Empire had the 1891 Mosin Nagant, the French, the Lebel 1886 and the Americans Springfield M1903.), most soldiers are armed with the magazine fed Lee-Enfield rifle, firing .303 rounds. Most soldiers are armed this rifle due to how cheap it is and easy to operate. The soldiers can accurately fire this rifle, but hard to fire on a moving target.

Pistols[]

By the setting of 1914, the majority of armies still used revolver handguns, with few using semi-automatic pistols. (Americans had the Colt M1911, and the Germans had the Luger P-08, and C-96 Mauser.) The soldiers are never seen using handguns, but Helga Sinclair and Lyle Tiberius Rourke are seen with the C-96 Mauser and Luger P-08. During the movie, Lyle Rourke threatens the king of the Atlanteans with the Luger P-08, while Helga can be seen twirling it around and pointing at Rourke during the battle.

Machine guns[]

The machine guns by 1914 were very revolutionary for warfare, due to most being recoil operated, and nations having them. (Russians had the Maxim Model 1910, the Germans MG-08, the British Vickers.) By the movie, there are only 3 machine guns (One being mounted on aircraft), a Lewis gun, firing in the .303 rifle rounds, the Vickers gun, which also shot .303. The Lewis gun can be seen being used by Lyle Tiberius Rourke during the final battle, firing until it gets destroyed. The soldiers utilized the Vickers gun as a both anti-infantry and Anti-Air role, which was fired before being destroyed by a giant stone fish during battle, while also being damaging some.

Mortar[]

The mortar is only seen once, which being based on the British Strokes Mortar, which is only seen being used as an anti-aircraft role rather then being used as an anti-infantry weapon.
